Procedure for using Manual Mode PowerShot G9

Solution

M: Manually Setting the Shutter Speed and Aperture

You can manually set the shutter speed and aperture to achieve a particular effect. This is convenient for shooting fireworks and other images where it is difficult to set the correct exposure automatically.

1. Turn the shooting mode dial to M.

2.Turn the Main Control Dial to adjust the selected value, either shutter speed or aperture (the camera defaults to the shutter speed adjustment).
3. Press the (Exposure Compensation) button above the Main Control Dial to switch between adjusting the shutter speed and aperture values.

4. Shoot the image. (You can use the light meter on the side of the LCD Display Monitor to determine the level of exposure.)
  • You can check the difference between the selected exposure and the standard exposure*. If the difference is more than +/-2 stops, the selected exposure appears in red on the LCD monitor. In addition, when you press the shutter button halfway, the difference between the standard exposure* and the selected exposure appears on the LCD monitor. If the difference is more than +/-2 stops, "-2" or "+2" appears in red.
    * Standard exposure levels are calculated by measuring light according to the currently selected metering mode.
  • When you press the * button, the shutter speed or aperture value will automatically shift to obtain the correct exposure (except when the MF icon is selected). When the shutter speed is selected, the aperture value will change. When the aperture is selected the shutter value will change.

  • If the zoom is adjusted after these values are set, the aperture value may change in accordance with the zoom position.
  • The LCD monitor s brightness matches the selected shutter speed and aperture value. When you select a fast shutter speed or shoot a subject in a dark place and set the flash to (Red-Eye Reduction, Flash On) or (Flash On) or affix an external flash to the camera, the LCD monitor will always appear bright.
