Solution

If an error message is displayed on the LCD, take the corresponding action described below.
REFERENCE
"Support Code" on the table below means the error number. It appears on the LCD and the computer screen with a message when an error occurs.

Support Code=1401 : Print head is not installed.Install the print head

  • The FINE cartridge is not installed.
Install the FINE cartridge.
  • Appropriate FINE cartridge is not installed.
Install the appropriate FINE cartridge.
If the error is not resolved, service is required.

Support Code=1403 : The type of print head is incorrect. Install the correct print head

  • The FINE cartridge is not installed.

Printing cannot be executed because the ink cartridge is not compatible with this machine.
Install the appropriate ink cartridge.
If you want to cancel printing, press the machine's Stop button.

Support Code=1687 : The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized

Appropriate ink cartridge is not installed.
Printing cannot be executed because the ink cartridge is not compatible with this machine.
Install the appropriate ink cartridge.
If you want to cancel printing, press the machine's Stop button.
Replacing a FINE Cartridge

 

REFERENCE
When the Head Cover does not open, turn OFF this product. Then, push the left side of the FINE Cartridge Holder, then move it until it hits the right inner side of the printer. On this occasion, do not touch the other parts.


 
When the Head Cover opens, move the FINE Cartridge Holder to the position that the Ink Cartridge Lock Lever can be seen.


 
Remove the FINE cartridge, then install it properly.
Turn ON this product to confirm that the error is solved.
 

Support Code=1487,1486 : Some ink cartridges are not installed in place

Make sure that each FINE cartridge is installed in the correct position.

Support Code=1684 : The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized

The ink cartridge cannot be recognized.
Printing cannot be executed because the ink cartridge may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with this machine.
Install the appropriate ink cartridge.
If you want to cancel printing, press the machine's Stop button.

Support Code=1682 : The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized

The FINE cartridge cannot be recognized.
Replace the FINE cartridge.
If the error is not resolved, service is required.

Support Code=1686 : The ink may have run out. Replacing the ink cartridge is recommended

The ink may have run out.
The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled since the ink level cannot be correctly detected.
If you want to continue printing without this function, press the machine's Stop button for at least 5 seconds.
Canon recommends to use new genuine Canon cartridges in order to obtain optimum qualities.
Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble caused by continuation of printing under the ink out condition.
REFERENCE
If the function for detecting the remaining ink level is disabled, the ink cartridge in grey is displayed in the remaining ink volume screen on the LCD.
Replacing a FINE Cartridge

Support Code=1688 : The ink has run out. Replace the ink cartridge

The ink has run out.
Replace the ink cartridge and close the paper output cover.
If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press the machine's Stop button for at least 5 seconds with the ink cartridge installed. Then printing can continue under the ink out condition.
The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled.
Replace the empty ink cartridge immediately after the printing. The resulting print quality is not satisfactory, if printing is continued under the ink out condition.
REFERENCE
If the function for detecting the remaining ink level is disabled, the ink cartridge in grey is displayed in the remaining ink volume screen on the LCD.
Replacing a FINE Cartridge

Support Code=1003 : No paper. Check the following and press [ OK ] when finished. when finished. - Insert the paper completely to the end. Align the paper guides with the paper

Reload the paper and press the OK button on the printer.
When you load the paper, insert the paper stack until the leading edge touches the far end of the front tray.
 

Support Code=1202 : Paper output cover is open. Close the paper output cover

The paper output cover is open. Close the paper output cover.
 

Support Code=1250 : Paper output tray is closed. Open the paper output tray

Open the Front Tray to resume printing.
 

Support Code=1300 : Paper is jammed in the paper output slot. Remove the paper

The paper may be jammed in the paper output slot. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properly in the machine, then press the OK button on the machine.

Support Code=1303 : Paper is jammed in the rear side. Remove the paper.

The paper may be jammed in the rear side. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properly in the machine, then press the OK button on the machine.

Support Code=1304 : Paper is jammed in the duplex transport unit. Remove the paper.

The paper may be jammed in the transport unit. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properly in the machine, then press the OK button on the machine.
Paper Jams

Support Code=1310 : This paper is not compatible with two-sided printing. Remove the paper and select [ OK ].

The size of paper may not be compatible with automatic duplex printing. The sizes of media suitable for auto duplex printing are A4 and Letter. Make sure that the size of the paper loaded in the machine is correct. Pressing the OK button will eject the paper and restart printing from the front side of the next paper. The reverse side of the ejected sheet will not be printed.
 

Data of supported types are not saved

  • There is no image data or document saved on the memory card that can be read by this machine.
  • The machine may not recognize the file if the file name or folder path contain certain characters. Use only alphanumeric characters.
  • Photo data edited or processed on a computer must be printed from the computer.
REFERENCE
  • When a photo which has been processed on a computer is selected, "?" is displayed on the LCD.
 

Cannot print the specified PDF file. An error has occurred while scanning the file, or the format is not supported, or the file is too large

Make sure the PDF file is printable from a memory card.
REFERENCE
The names of the PDF files are displayed even though they cannot be printed from the memory card. It is recommended you confirm whether they are printable. If one of the following conditions applies to the PDF files, they are not printable.
  • The Details screen is not displayed for the PDF file you want to print.
  • Characters other than machine name, IJ Scan Utility, or My Image Garden are displayed on Created with on the Details screen.
  • "?" is displayed on the preview screen.
 

 

  • Data edited or processed on a computer must be printed from the computer.
 

The specified PDF file contains unprintable data. Some portions may not be printed.

PDF file which contain lot of graphics or hi-resolution images may lose that data or stop before printing is completed. In this case, print from the computer.
 

Support Code=1702, 1704, 1712, 1714 : The ink absorber is almost full. Select [ OK ] to continue printing. Contact the service center

Support Code=2700 : Timeout error has occurred

Some errors occurred while copying and a certain time passed.
Press the OK button to dismiss the error, and try to copy again.
 

Failed to scan head alignment sheet. Check orientation/position and check that platen/sheet is clean. <See manual>

Scanning the print head alignment sheet has failed.
Press the OK button to dismiss the error, then take the actions described below.
  • Make sure that the print head alignment sheet is set in the correct position and orientation on the platen glass.
  • Make sure the platen glass and the print head alignment sheet are not dirty.
  • Make sure the type and size of loaded paper is suitable for Automatic Print Head Alignment.
For Automatic Print Head Alignment, always load one sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper.
  • Make sure if print head nozzles are clogged.
Print the nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print head.
If the error is not resolved, connect the machine to the computer and align the print head on the printer driver.
 

Support Code=B200 : An error has occurred. The printer needs repair.

Support Code=5100 : Printer error has occurred.

Follow the procedures below.
Check 1: Check if the protective material is left inside the printer
Check 2: Check if there is any foreign material inside the printer
Check 3: Check the encoder film conditions, and clean it if it is smeared
 

 

- Check 1: Check if the protective material is left inside the printer
If the error occurs during on-arrival setup of the printer, confirm that all the protective orange tapes and white packing materials are removed.

- Check 2: Check if there is any foreign material inside the printer
If foreign material such as jammed paper is inside the printer, the FINE cartridge cannot move properly, causing faulty printing or Error 5100.
Check and remove any foreign material inside the printer, following the procedures below.

- Check 3: Check the encoder film conditions, and clean it if it is smeared
The printer detects the position of the FINE cartridge holder by the encoder film. If the film is smeared, the holder position cannot be detected properly, resulting in Error 5100.

Turn off the machine, and unplug the power cord of the machine from the power supply.

Support Code=1890 : Remove the protective material or tape if it is attached to the holder

The protective material for the FINE cartridge or the tape remains attached.
Check the inside of the machine. If the protective material or the tape remains attached, remove it.
 

The card is currently writable from PC. Set to [Not writable from PC].

The Card Slot is set to Writable from USB PC or Writable from LAN PC.
You cannot print from the memory card or save the scanned data to the memory card when the Card Slot is set to Writable from USB PC or Writable from LAN PC. After writing on the memory card, select Not writable from PC in Read/write attribute in Device user settings.
 

Power was not turned off correctly the last time. Press the [ Power ] button when turning power off.

The power cord may have been unplugged last while the machine was still on.
Press the OK button to dismiss the error.

When you print the contents on CREATIVE PARK PREMIUM, confirm the message on the computer screen, make sure that genuine Canon FINE cartridges are all installed properly, then start printing again.
 

Cannot connect to the server. Please wait a while and try again

You cannot connect to the server properly When you have tried to access a photo sharing site, it is possible that your album has been deleted.
Press the OK button to dismiss the error, then try again.
