Reset Color Tone settings to default (N650U, N656U, N1220U)

Solution

Resetting the Color Tones

In the Advanced Mode of ScanGear, there are many options on the Tone tab that can affect the quality of your scanned images. These are user preference settings. The default settings will generally be the best settings for your scans. If at any time you experience undesired scan quality, it may be necessary to restore the default settings on the Tone tab.

To reset the Color Tone settings:

  1. Open ScanGear from the desired application (ex.- Toolbox, PhotoStudio, etc.).
  2. If not already in Advanced Mode, click on the 'Advanced Mode' button.
  3. Click the 'Tone' tab.
  4. Click the 'All Reset' button. This resets all four color areas to their defaults (Brightness/Contrast, Gamma, Histogram and Tone Curve).

More Information about the Color Tab

This tab allows you to adjust the image brightness and color tones in extensive detail. This includes the brightness and contrast settings, monitor brightness adjustments (gamma), image highlight and shadow settings and balance adjustments (histogram, tone curve). The Tone tab is enabled when the Color Mode category is set to 'Color' or 'Grayscale'. When the Color Mode category is set to 'Black and White', the tab name switches to Halftone. It is disabled when 'Text Enhanced' is the selected Color Mode (Windows only).

*Adjustments to image colors with the Tone tab are immediately reflected in the preview image. They are also reflected in the final scan.

When an area of an image is selected and the 'Apply' button is clicked, the brightness and coloration are automatically optimized for the entire image based on the selection (the area enclosed by the cropping frame).

*Changes made to the image colors with this function are also reflected in the final scanned image.

Channel

Each dot in a scanned image is expressed as a mixture of the three colors, red, green and blue. The settings for each of these colors can be set individually with the Channel section.

Master This option sets/adjusts all three color channels, R(ed), G(reen) and B(lue), in unison.
RGB Red: This option sets/adjusts only the red elements in the image.
Green: This option sets/adjusts only the green elements in the image.
Blue: This option sets/adjusts only the blue elements in the image.

*The Channel section does not display when the Color Mode category is set to Grayscale.
