Solution

Scanning Oversize Items (4400F, 8600F)

When placing an oversized item, such as a book, on the scanner glass, the Z-lid hinge will adjust as necessary allowing the document cover to lay nearly flat to the top of the item.

The Gutter Shadow Correctly can be useful when scanning books

Gutter Shadow Correction (platen only)
Reduces a dark band that appears in the gutter section of an image when left and right pages of a bound document are scanned.
If a preview image is already displayed, the change in this setting will be reflected in the image. This allows you to test this function on the preview image before making the final scan, as the corrected result varies depending on the type of document and how hard you press on the document against the document grass.
Blurred or out-of-focus text and line images are not corrected with this function.
None No correction is applied.
Low Select this setting if less correction is needed.
Medium This setting is recommended for standard conditions.
High Select this setting if stronger correction is needed.
When you enable this function, notes on placing a book document on the document glass are displayed. Read the notes and click the [OK] button.
This function can be set after an image has been previewed and displayed in the preview area.
This setting cannot be changed when the [Multi-Crop] button is clicked.
Do not place items that weigh 2.0 kg (4.4 lbs) or more on the scanner. The scanner may not work or you may break the document glass if you press down the document glass firmly.
Align your document on the edge of the document glass when placing the document on the scanner. This function does not work correctly if the document is set crooked.

Apply the same amount of pressure on the back of the bound document in preview and final scans. This function does not work correctly if the amount of the pressure applied on the back of the bound document is not even.

Cover the document with a black cloth if external light enters around the document.
If the image is not corrected properly, adjust the size of cropping frame on the preview image and try again.
The gutter shadow may not be correctly detected in some documents i.e., with a non-white background.
