Installing the MultiPASS Software

To use your MultiPASS in Windows 98, 95, or Windows 3.1 environment, it is necessary to install the MultiPASS Software. The software includes the following components and will install the appropriate driver installation files depending on which Windows operating system is detected by the Setup program: MultiPASS Desktop Manager version 2.1, and the MultiPASS Printer and Fax Drivers.

Standalone Fax Users: If you plan to use the MultiPASS as a standalone fax machine, limited user settings are available through the operation panel on the MultiPASS. However, it is recommended that you connect the MultiPASS to a computer and install the Desktop Manager software to perform the following tasks:

programming speed dials
setting for legal sized copies or faxes
changing other facsimile settings

  1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
  2. Plug in the power cord to the MultiPASS.
  3. Connect the data cable from the MultiPASS to the computer.
  4. Turn on the computer.
  5. If you see any of the screens listed below, click 'Cancel':
    • New Hardware Found
    • Update Device Driver Wizard
    • New Hardware Wizard
  1. When you have returned to the Windows desktop, close any open applications before continuing with the software installation..
  2. Insert the Canon Creative CD-ROM into your CD drive. Depending on how Windows is configured, the Setup program will automatically launch.
  3. If the Setup program starts automatically, proceed to step 10. If Setup does not start automatically, click 'Start' and then 'Run'.
  4. In the 'Open' box of the Run window, type X:\SETUP (where X: is your CD drive). Click 'OK'.

Note: If you have the MultiPASS Desktop Manager Maintenance Release CD-ROM:

  • Install the MultiPASS C3000 Printer Driver through Add Printer Wizard.
  • At the Install From Disk window, type X:\mpc3000\winbj\disk1 and click 'OK'.
  • Confirm the Add Printer Wizard displays 'Canon MultiPASS C3000 Printer' in the Printers list box and then click 'Next'.
  • Confirm the port for your printer and click 'Next'.
  • Select whether you want to use the C3000 MultiPASS as your default printer, then click 'Finish'.
  • After the first disk is installed, click 'OK' to direct the installer to disk 2.
  • Place your mouse cursor behind 'disk1' at the Copy files from box, then replace the '1' with a '2'.
  • Now the the box will look like this X:\mpc3000\winbj\disk2. Click 'OK'.
  • Setup will prompt you to install the MultiPASS Utilities. Direct Setup to the following location X:\mpc3000\mpassdtm\disk1\setup in the Directory box of the Setup window.
  • Proceed with installation instructions from step 13 until step 16.
  1. At the first splash screen, click 'Next' to start the installation. You must accept the license agreement and then click the appropriate button to proceed through the installation.
  2. Setup will detect the printer name (MultiPASS C3000 Printer) and the printer port. Please read this message box very carefully and click the 'Change Settings' button to make any desired changes or click 'Next' to continue.
  3. Setup will install the printer driver files and configure them as well. Then click 'Next' to install the MultiPASS Utilities.
  4. At the Choose Destination Location screen, click 'Browse' to select another destination folder or click 'Next' to install the MultiPASS Utilities to C:\MPASS\.
  5. An Automatic Installation Procedure will guide you through receive mode setup by asking questions regarding telephone peripheral device connections (like an extension telephone or answering machine). Carefully read the Installation window to select which Receive Mode you want set for your fax. Click 'Next' at this screen then click 'OK' after confirming the MultiPASS is properly attached to your computer via a bi-directional parallel cable.
  6. Click 'Next' to setup the fax machine's receive mode settings.
  7. After Setup has installed the software, it will test the hardware. Click 'Next' at this screen then enter your Fax Heading/Unit Name, Fax Number, Company Name and Outside dialing prefix (if applicable), how you would like to receive incoming faxes (whether uploaded to your computer or printed), and click 'Next' to continue.
  8. Verify the information typed in on step 16 is correct, then click 'Yes'.
  9. Proceed through the Canon Creative installation by selecting 'Yes' or 'No' to install appropriate programs.
  10. When prompted, click 'Next' to register your product.
  11. When the installation is complete, the Setup program will prompt you to restart your computer. If Windows redetects New Hardware on reboot, click 'Cancel' to return to Windows desktop.
