Follow the steps below to connect the camera to your computer with a USB Cable.

Before you begin

 Turn on computer before you set up the connection.

• Connect your camera and computer with the USB interface cable provided with the camera.

• For information about operations, after the camera is connected to the computer, please refer to the Instruction manual supplied with your camera.

 After you connect the camera to the computer, the software you install from the solutions disc will run. Never perform the operations below since a communications error or damage may occur:

• Turn Off the camera.

• Open the CF card slot cover.

• Disconnect the dedicated USB cable.

• Remove the battery.

• Disconnect the DC coupler (sold separately), unplug the AC adapter (sold separately), or power cord.

USB connection steps

1. Close the software in use.

2. Set the Communication Mode on the camera must be set to PC Connect before you connect it to your computer.

3. Turn OFF the camera.

4. Plug the supplied USB cable into the USB port on your computer. The port's location differs between computers. Please refer to the documentation provided with your computer for more information.

   

5. Open the side panel cover and connect the other end of the USB cable into the DIGITAL terminal of your camera.

   

6. Turn ON the camera.

7. The EOS Digital Rebel XT screen (event screen) and the Scanner and Camera Wizard dialog box will appear.
    

 Good to know

• Use the USB interface cable provided to connect the camera directly to your computer. The camera and computer may not operate correctly if you connect them via a hub or connect to multiple USB devices.

• Push the plug firmly into the socket. Loose connections can cause faults or malfunctions.

• The connection may not operate correctly if you use other USB devices at the same time (excludes USB mouse or keyboards). If this occurs, disconnect the other USB devices from the computer and try to reconnect the camera again.

• Don't connect more than one camera to the same computer. The connections may not operate correctly.

• When the camera and computer are connected, the camera's LCD panel may blink. Also, if you use a LCD monitor with your computer, the image on the monitor may flicker. This is not a malfunction.

• When you unplug the USB cable, grip the sides of the plug as you pull it out.

• If a camera and computer remains active for a certain amount of time, while connected, a message appears on screen to confirm if you want to keep the connection active. If you don't respond after this message appears, the connection with the camera is terminated. To re-establish connection, press the shutter button down halfway or turn the camera Off and On again.

• Don't put the computer to sleep while it's connected to the camera and don't disconnect the USB cable while your computer is still in sleep mode. Always wake your computer before you disconnect the camera. If you disconnect the USB cable on some computers, while in sleep mode, it might not wake up correctly. Refer to the computer's user manual for more information on sleep mode.

• When the camera is connected to a computer, use the DC Coupler Kit (sold separately) so that you can continue to use the camera regardless of battery level.
