Solution

The following messages may appear on the camera LCD monitor (or the viewfinder) if an error occurs with the camera.
The following messages may appear on the LCD monitor during shooting or playback.
Busy...Image is being recorded onto the memory card, red eye correction is being processed. Resetting all the camera and menu settings to default.
No memory cardYou turned on the camera without a memory card installed, or with a memory card installed in the wrong orientation.
Card locked!The SD memory card or SDHC memory card is write protected.
Cannot record!You attempted to shoot an image without a memory card installed, with a memory card installed in the wrong orientation, or attempted to attach a sound memo to a movie.
Memory card errorThe memory card may be malfunctioning. By formatting the malfunctioning memory card with the camera, you may be able to continue using it. However, if this error message continues to appear, contact your Canon Customer Support Help Desk as there may be a problem with the camera.
Memory card fullMemory card is full of images and no more can be recorded or saved. In addition, no more image settings, or sounds or sound memos can be recorded.
Naming error!The file name could not be created because there is an image with the same name as the folder that the camera is attempting to create, or the highest possible file number has already been reached. In the Set up () menu, set [File Numbering] to [Auto Reset]; alternatively, save all the images you wish to retain onto a computer, then reformat the memory card. Please note that formatting will erase all the existing images and other data.
Change the batteries.Battery charge is insufficient to operate the camera. Replace the batteries immediately with unused AA-size alkaline batteries or fully charged Canon AA-size NiMH batteries. Also refer to Battery.
No Image.No images recorded on memory card.
Image too largeYou attempted to play back an image larger than 5616 x 3744 pixels or with a large data size.
Incompatible JPEGYou attempted to play back an incompatible JPEG image (edited with a computer, etc.).
RAWYou attempted to play back a RAW image.
Unidentified ImageYou attempted to play back an image with corrupted data, an image with a recording type specific to another manufacturer's camera, or an image that has been downloaded to a computer and altered.
Cannot magnify!You attempted to magnify an image recorded in a different camera or data type, an image edited with a computer, or a movie.
Cannot rotateYou attempted to rotate the image shot with a different camera or data type, or an image edited with a computer.
Incompatible WAVEA sound memo cannot be added to this image since the data type of the existing sound memo is incorrect. In addition, sound cannot be played back.
Cannot register this image!You attempted to register an image recorded in a different camera, or a movie as a start-up image.
Cannot modify imageYou attempted to add My Colors effects, apply red-eye correction, resize, or apply brightness correction to a movie, or image taken with another camera. Or you attempted to resize an image already resized to () or an image shot in (). Or, you attempted to trim an image recorded using (), or a () or () image.
Cannot assign to a categoryYou attempted to categorize an image recorded in a different camera.
Cannot ModifyCannot apply red-eye correction as no red-eye is detected.
Cannot transfer!When transferring images to your computer using the Direct Transfer menu, an image with corrupted data, an image taken with a different camera or data type. You may have also attempted to select a movie when [Wallpaper] was selected in the Direct Transfer menu.
Protected!You attempted to erase or edit a protected image, movie or sound memo.
Protected images, movies or sound memos cannot be erased. Remove protection before erasing.
If [Protect] () appears in the lower-left corner of the playback screen, the image is being protected. Follow the procedures below to remove the protection.
- Press the <</kbd>Playback> () button, and then turn the power on. Select the <</kbd>MENU> button > the [Playback] () menu > [Protect], and then select the image for which you want to remove protection. Next, press the button to remove [Protect] ().
Too many marksToo many images have been marked with print settings, transfer settings or slide show image settings. Cannot process any more.
Cannot complete!Could not save a part of the print, transfer or slide show settings.
Unselectable imageYou attempted to set the print settings for a non-JPEG image.
Cannot selectIn selecting the image range for categorizing via the My Category function, protecting images, erasing images or specifying print settings, you selected a starting image with a file number higher than the last image or a last image with a file number lower than the starting image. Or, you specified more than 500 images.
Communication errorThe computer was unable to download the image due to the large amount of images (approx. 1000) stored on the memory card. Use a USB card reader or a PCMCIA card adapter to download the images.
Lens error, restart cameraAn error was detected while the lens was in motion, and the power has been automatically turned off. This error can occur if you hold the lens while it is in motion or you operate it in a location with excessive dust or sand in the air. Try turning the power back on, and resume shooting or playback. If this message continues to display, contact your Canon Customer Support Help Desk as there may be a problem with the lens.
Exx(xx: number) Camera detected an error. Turn the power off and then back on, then shoot or play back. A problem exists if the error code reappears. Note the number and contact your Canon Customer Support Help Desk. If an error code displays directly after taking a picture, the shot may not have been recorded. Check image in playback mode.

The following messages may appear on the camera's LCD monitor.
Printing with SELPHY ES Series / SELPHY CP Series Printers using PictBridge
No PaperPaper cassette is incorrectly inserted or out of paper. Or the paper feed is not operating correctly.
No InkThe ink cartridge has not been inserted or has run out of ink.
Paper and ink do not matchThe paper and ink are from different sets.
Paper JamThe paper jammed during printing.
Print output tray is fullRemove paper from the print output tray.
Paper ErrorThe paper is not correctly set in the printer.
Cartridge not compatibleCartridge is not compatible.
Ink ErrorThe ink cassette is experiencing a problem.
Recharge the printer batteryThe printer's battery pack is depleted.
Readjust trimmingYou attempted to print the image with a different style than the one used when the trimming settings were set.
Hardware ErrorCheck whether or not an error other than a paper or ink error has occurred.
File ErrorYou tried to print an image that is not compatible with PictBridge. Some images that have been recorded with another camera or modified using a computer cannot be printed.
Print errorThere is an error in the settings. Turn off the printer and turn it on again, then set the print settings correctly.

The following messages may appear on the camera LCD monitor.
Printing with Bubble Jet Printers (PIXMA Series / SELPHY DS Series) using PictBridge
No Paper *Set paper in the printer, then execute printing again.
Paper JamThe paper jammed during printing. Select [Stop] to cancel printing. Remove the jammed paper, reset some other paper in the printer, then print again.
Paper ErrorEither the paper is not set correctly in the printer, or paper that differs from the setting has been set in the printer. Confirm the type and size of paper being used. Also open the paper output tray if it is closed. In addition, close the CD-R tray guide when it is open.
No Ink Ink Cassete ErrorThe ink tank has run out of ink or there is no ink tank in the printer. The number of times that the printer's error lamp blinks, and the error message displayed, will indicate the appropriate remedy for the error. Please refer to the printer's user guide for the remedy.
Low ink level *The ink tank needs to be replaced soon. Prepare a new ink tank. If you select [Continue] in the error screen, you can restart printing.
Ink absorber full *You can restart printing if you select [Continue] in the error screen. Please request replacement of the ink absorber from your nearest Canon Customer Support center listed in the contact list provided with the printer or in the user guide. The ink absorber cannot be replaced by the user.
Ink ErrorThere is a problem with the ink. If the printer's error lamp is blinking and an error message is displayed, please refer to the printer's user guide to ascertain the problem and its remedy.
Printer errorDisconnect the cable from the printer and turn off the printer power. Then reconnect the cable and turn on the printer. If the error persists, please request a repair from your nearest Canon Customer Support Center (listed in the contact list provided with the printer).
Printer in useThe printer is warming up or in use. The printer automatically starts printing the images from the camera after completing the current printing. Also, when a message displays regarding checking the position of the paper thickness lever, check the position of the paper thickness lever, then press the OK button on the printer.
Paper lever error *Adjust the paper thickness lever to the proper position.
Printer cover openClose the printer cover securely.
No print headIf the printer's error lamp is blinking and an error message is displayed, please refer to the printer's user guide to ascertain the problem and its remedy.
Hardware ErrorIf the printer's error lamp is blinking and an error message is displayed, please refer to the printer's user guide to ascertain the problem and its remedy.
File ErrorYou tried to print an image that is not compatible with PictBridge. Some images that have been recorded with another camera or modified using a computer cannot be printed.
Incompatible paper sizePaper of a different size than the specified paper size is set to the printer. Select [Continue] on the error screen to display the paper size setting screen. Correct the paper size using the screen (only the selectable paper sizes appear on the screen).
Print errorCheck that the correct paper size is selected. If this error message appears even when the correct paper size is set, turn off the printer, then turn it on again. If the error persists, please request a repair from your nearest Canon Customer Support Center (listed in the contact list provided with the printer).
Check print settingsUnprintable settings are included. Select [Continue] on the error screen to display the print order screen. Check the print settings (only the printable settings appear on the screen), change the settings if necessary, then print again.
* If you select [Continue] and press the <FUNC./SET> button, printing resumes.

Printing with SELPHY CP Series Printers using Canon Direct Print
No PaperPaper cassette is incorrectly inserted or out of paper. Or the paper feed is not operating correctly.

Paper has been changedPaper size was changed after the print style was displayed.
Recharge the printer batteryThe printer's battery pack is depleted.
Communication ErrorThe printer is experiencing a data transmission error.
Readjust trimmingYou attempted to print the image with a different style than the one used when the trimming settings were set.
Cannot Print!You attempted to print an image that was photographed with another camera, one recorded in a different data type, or one that has been edited on a computer.
Could not print xx imagesYou attempted to use the DPOF print settings to print xx images that were photographed with another camera, that have been recorded in a different data type, or that have been edited on a computer.
