Receiving with a DRPD (Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection) service: DRPD

Choose this mode if:

• you subscribe to an answering service (voice mail) through your local phone company.
• you only have one telephone line for fax and telephone use.
• you want to receive faxes automatically as well as voice calls.
• you have subscribed to a DRPD (Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection) service with your telephone company. This service assigns two or more telephone numbers with distinctive ring patterns to a single telephone line, allowing you to have a fax number(s) and a telephone number(s) using only one telephone line. Your machine will automatically monitor incoming calls and based on the ring pattern, will let you know if the call is a fax or voice call. Contact your telephone company for more information on this service.

Prior to setting the fax to DRPD receive mode, you must subscribe to distinctive ring service through your local phone company. Please note this service may not be available in all areas.

1. Confirm the <Fax> button light is lit. If the light is not lit, press the <Fax> button.
   
   
2. Press <Additional Functions> button. [1. FAX SETTINGS] will appear in the second row on the display.
   
   
3. Press <Set> twice.  The display will read the current receive mode setting.
   
   
4. Press the < (left arrow) or > (right arrow) to select [DRPD].
   
   
5. Press <Set>. The MP390 will return to standby mode (date and receive mode are displayed).  The fax will now answer when the double-ring fax number is dialed. If you'd like to set a different ring pattern as the fax number proceed to step 6.
   
   
6. Press <Additional Functions> button. [1. FAX SETTINGS] will appear in the second row on the display.
   
   
7. Press <Set>.
   
   
8. Use the < (left arrow) or > (right arrow) to select [7. RX SETTINGS] and then press <Set>. [1. ECM RX] will appear.
   
   
9. Use the < (left arrow) or > (right arrow) to select [3. DRPD:SELECT FAX].
   
   
10. Press <Set>.
    
    
11. Use the < (left arrow) or > (right arrow) to select the ring pattern you prefer the fax to use. The available ring pattern options are:
    
    
    • [DOUBLE RING]
    • [SHORT-SHORT-LONG]
    • [SHORT-LONG-SHORT]
    • [OTHER RING TYPE]
    • [NORMAL RING]
      
      
12. Press <Set>.
    
    
13. Press <Stop/Reset> to return to standby mode (date and receive mode will appear).

When you receive a fax call: The machine will ring according to the ring pattern you have chosen and receive the fax automatically.

When you receive a voice call: The machine will ring according to the ring pattern you have chosen. Pick up the handset to answer the call.
