Symptoms

Condensed or distorted printing with the BJC-240/250/251/255/4200/4300/4302/4304/4400/4550 printers in Windows.

Solutions

Make sure the printer recognizes the correct ink cartridge by performing the Printer Status Information test pattern from the printer. To perform the status test: Make sure the printer is off but plugged in, and has paper loaded. Hold down the power button until the printer beeps 3 times then release the power button. The printer should print a status page. Look on line 19 for the installed BJ Cartridge Type.

If the listed installed cartridge type is different from the actual cartridge, reseat the cartridge and perform the test pattern until they match. Also make sure that the Windows driver is set up correctly for the ink cartridge used.

To check the driver, do the following:

  1. In the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, then click Printers.
  2. Right-click the Canon printer icon, then select Properties.
  3. Click the Graphics tab.
    • If you have a photo ink cartridge installed in printer (BC-06 or BC-22), make sure the Color model section on the Graphics tab is set to Photo color.
    • If you currently have a regular color cartridge installed in your Canon printer (BC-05, BC-21e) then make sure the Color Model is set to Color.
