Description

Resolution is a measure of the fineness or clarity of a printout and is usually expressed in horizontal and vertical dots per inch (dpi). Contrast is the difference in brightness between the lightest and darkest parts of a printed document.

Resolution / Scan Contrast

Resolution is a measure of the fineness or clarity of a printout and is usually expressed in horizontal and vertical dots per inch (dpi). Low resolutions may cause text and graphics to have a jagged appearance, while higher resolutions provide smoother curves and lines, crisp text and graphics, and a better match to traditional typeface designs. Contrast is the difference in brightness between the lightest and darkest parts of a printed document. You can adjust the contrast your fax uses to copy or send documents, according to how light or dark your document is. To change the scanning contrast, click here.

Copy Resolution:

  1. Open the document tray.

  2. Adjust the document feed lever for the document you are loading.

  3. Prepare the document and load it, face down, in the ADF.



  4. Press .
    To copy in color, click here.
    To copy in black & white, click here.



For color copying:

  1. Press to turn on its light
  2. Press <Resolution> repeatedly until the resolution you want appears.



    You can select from the following:
    [COLOR DRAFT]: For color resolution at 360 x 360 dpi.
    [COLOR FINE]: For copying color at 360 x 360 dpi; this results in a much better quality reproduction, but takes longer than other settings.
    [COLOR DRAFT]: For high-speed color copying of photos that are less wide than a letter-size page. The resolution is 360 x 360 dpi.

    Note: When copying in color, you can set the unit to print on plain paper or high resolution paper.

For black & white copying:

  1. Make sure the light is off
  2. Press <Resolution> repeatedly until the resolution you want appears.



    You can select from the following:
    [B&W TEXT] : Suitable for most text documents.
    [B&W PHOTO] : Suitable for documents that contain photographs.

    Note: You cannot use the BC-22e Photo BJ Cartridge to make black & white copies.
  1. If you want to make multiple black & white copies, use the numeric buttons to enter the number of copies.

    You can make up to 99 black & white copies.
    You can only make one color copy at a time.

  2. Press to begin copying.
    Note: To stop copying, press the stop buttonYou may then need to open the operation panel to remove the document.

Fax Resolution:

  1. Open the document tray.

  2. Adjust the document feed lever for the document you are loading.

  3. Prepare the document and load it, face down, in the ADF.



  4. Fax preparation.
    To send a fax in color, click here.
    To send a fax in black & white, click here.

For color faxing:

  1. Press to turn on its light
  2. Press <Resolution> repeatedly until the resolution you want appears.
    When the Resolution button is first pressed, the current resolution setting is displayed.

    You can select from the following:
    [FAX STANDARD]: Provides standard color resolution.
    [FAX FINE]: Provides a higher quality color resolution.

    Note: You can change the resolution setting while the document is being scanned for sending. However, please note that your new setting will only be effective from the next page scanned.

For black & white faxing:

  1. Make sure the light is off
  2. Press <Resolution> repeatedly until the resolution you want appears.

    You can select from the following:
    [FAX STANDARD]: Suitable for most text-only documents.
    [FAX FINE]: Suitable for documents with fine print (smaller than the print in this sentence).
    [FAX PHOTO]: Suitable for documents that contain photographs. With this setting, areas of the document that contain photos are automatically scanned with 64 levels of gray, rather than just two (black & white). This gives a much better reproduction of photos, though the transmission time is longer.

    Note: You can change the resolution setting while the document is being scanned for sending. However, please note that your new setting will only be effective from the next page scanned.
  1. Press to send the fax.

Scan Contrast:

  1. Press <Function>.



  2. Press <Data Registration>.

  3. Press <Set> twice.

  4. Press or to select [SCAN CONTRAST].

  5. Press <Set>.

  6. Press or to select the scanning contrast you want.

    You can select from the following:
    [STANDARD]: Adequate for most documents.
    [DARKER]: Suitable for light documents.
    [LIGHTER]: Suitable for dark documents.

  7. Press <Set>.

  8. Press <Stop> to return to standby mode.

    Note: Changing the scanning contrast will affect documents that are copied and sent from your printer.
