Telephone and Fax Do Not Automatically Switch

Check that the fax receive mode or the other settings are specified correctly.

Is the selected receive mode appropriate for the connected telephone?

Check that the selected receive mode is appropriate for the connected telephone.
When an ordinary telephone is connected,
When an answering machine is connected,
If you have subscribed to a Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD) service provided by your telephone company,

If the receive mode is <Fax/Tel (Auto Switch)>, is the period for <Ring Start Time> set short?

If the set period is short, a received fax may not be recognized as a fax and the external phone may ring. Set a longer <Ring Start Time>.
<Fax> <TX/RX Settings> <RX Mode> <Fax/Tel (Auto Switch)> <Ring Start Time> Specify a longer period than the set time <Apply>

Are the sender's line conditions poor?

If the sender's line conditions are poor and the receive start speed is specified too fast, the connection may not switch to faxing. Change the setting in <RX Start Speed>.
<Menu> <Function Settings> <Receive/Forward> <Fax Settings> <RX Start Speed> Specify a slower receive start speed than the set speed

Is free memory space running low?

If saved received documents remain in memory, print, forward, or delete the saved documents.

The sending machine may not support sending a fax identification signal (CNG signal)

If a fax is sent from a machine that does not support sending a fax identification signal (CNG signal), the machine does not automatically switch to fax receive mode. See Specifying a Fax Receive Mode for changing the setting of the machine to receive a fax manually.
*A fax identification signal (CNG signal) is the beep-beep-beep sound pattern sent from the sending machine.
