Learn how to print and scan without a router with the Wireless Direct feature on the PIXMA TS8220.
 

Solution

Wireless Direct allows you to print or scan with your devices directly to the printer without the use of a wireless router.

Follow the procedures below to use Wireless Direct.

 You can connect up to 5 devices to the printer at the same time. Also, check the usage restrictions before you begin.
 

Wireless Direct printer setup.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Select Settings icon Setup on the Home screen.

  3. Select Device Settings icon Device settings.

  4. Select LAN settings.

  5. Select Wireless Direct. The Wireless Direct setting list screen appears.

  6. Select Settings.

  7. Select Enable/disable Wireless Direct.

  8. Select ON. Wireless Direct mode is enabled and a device can be connected to the printer wirelessly.

     To show the password, select Show password. To hide the password, select Hide password.

  • The Wireless Direct setting list screen shows the settings for Wireless Direct.

  • When your device is detected by the printer, the Network (SSID)/device name is shown on the printer LCD screen.

  • A password may or may not be required when you connect a device to the printer.

  • When you connect a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device to the printer, select the device name displayed on the touch screen from your device.

  • The identifier (SSID) and the security setting are specified automatically.
     

Change the device settings and connect it to the printer.

  1. Enable Wi-Fi® on your device's Settings menu. Please refer to your device's instruction manual for more information about it's Wi-Fi function.

  2. Select DIRECT-XXXX-TS8200series, (X represents alphanumeric characters) from the availabe Wi-Fi connections list displayed on your device.

     If DIRECT-XXXX-TS8200series does not appear on the list, Wireless Direct is not enabled.

  3. Enter the password. Your device is now connected to the printer.

     Check the password for Wireless Direct with the methods below.

 A password may or may not be required when you connect a device to the printer via Wi-Fi. Enter the password specified for the printer.

  • If your Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is set to prioritize Wi-Fi Direct connections to the printer, allow the device to connect to the printer on the confirmation screen.

  • Make sure your device's name matches the name displayed on the printer's LCD screen before you select Yes.
     

Print and scan with your mobile device via Wireless Direct.

Install the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY to print or scan from your smartphone or tablet.

  • Download and install on your iOS device from the App Store®.

  • Download and install on your Android™ device from the Google Play® store.

 For more information on how to print or scan from your device via Wi-Fi, refer to the device's or application's instruction manual.
 

Change the Wireless Direct settings.

 If you change the Wireless Direct setting of the printer, you also need to change the wireless router setting of the device.

Follow the procedure below to change the settings for Wireless Direct.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Select Settings icon Setup on the Home screen.

  3. Select Device settings icon Device settings.

  4. Select LAN settings. The LAN settings screen appears.

     To print the network settings sheet, select Print details in the LAN settings screen.

  5. Select Wireless Direct. The Wireless Direct setting list screen appears.

  6. Select Settings.

  7. Select Change SSID/device name, Change password, or Connection request confirmation.

Wireless direct settings

  • Change SSID/device name

    • Enter the identifier or printer's name (SSID up to 32 characters) displayed on your Wi-Fi Direct compatible device and select OK twice.

  • Change password

    • Select Change manually.

    • Enter the password (up to 10 characters) and select OK twice.

  • Connection request confirmation

    • Change the confirmation screen setting when you connect a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device to the printer.

    • Select Yes to allow the printer to display the Wi-Fi Direct compatible information screen.

 If you select Auto update, the confirmation screen will be displayed. To update the identifier (SSID) and the password, select Yes. You can check the updated identifier (SSID) and password on the Wireless Direct setting list screen.

  • Do not change the setting from default to prevent unauthorized access.

  1. Tap Home Home screen button.
