Auto Zoom

Definition:

A motorized mechanism that is utilized to alter the focal length of the zoom lens of a camera.

Description:

This motorized zooming mechanism is commonly called a "power zoom".

The term "auto zoom" represents a zoom lens operating system that automatically extends a zoom lens according to a previously assigned image size or other zooming factors.

The expression "power zoom" or "auto zoom" is also applied to the vari-focal type optics which cannot keep a sharp focus on the film plane during the focal length altering movement.
