Check the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) for obstructions

If [DOCUMENT READY] does not appear when a document is inserted or [DOC. TOO LONG] appears or if documents do not feed properly, follow this procedure to check the ADF for obstructions. You do not need to turn off the power when clearing document jams.

1. Press the <Stop/Reset> button to clear the error.
   
   
2. If a multipage document is loaded, remove all the documents from the ADF except for the jammed page.
   
   
   
   
3. Open the feeder cover.
   
   
   
   
4. Raise the papper release lever and slide the paper under the roller toward the left of the machine.
   
   
   
   
5. Pull out the jammed document from the ADF.
   
   
   
   
6. Check for obstructions (such as paper clips, staples, tape, etc.); remove them if found.
   
   
7. Lower the paper release lever (indicated by the magnified view) and close the feeder cover.
   
   
   
   
8. Lift the document cover.
   
   
9. Check on the document path (A) and then under the document cover near the ADF area (B) for any obstructions; remove them if found.
   
   
   
   
10. Close the document cover.
    
    Note: When a document jam occurs by pressing the Stop/Reset button during copying or sending, remove the remaining documents from the ADF, and then press <Resume>. The jammed documents in the ADF will be automatically ejected.
    
    
11. Load a document(s) in the ADF.
    
    
12. Adjust the document guides and continue to use the machine.
