Description

Learn to print wirelessly from your Windows computer to a Selphy CP1300 printer. This article includes instructions for connecting the printer by manually selecting your wireless router and entering its password, or using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup).

Solution

Before you can print via Wi-Fi® from a computer, the computer must be connected to a router.  Check the following before you begin.

  • The router (access point) must support IEEE 802.11b/g connections.

  • Before using Wi-Fi, be sure to read Wi-Fi (Wireless LAN) Precautions in the Printer User Guide.

  • For your computer make sure.

    • You have internet access to set up the computer.

    • You are logged in as an administrator in order to install/uninstall software to your computer.

    • Installation may not be possible depending on the settings of security software installed on your computer.

For convenience, wireless routers and other base stations are also referred to as access point.


Connect a SELPHY to the router

How to connect varies depending on whether the access point is WPS® compatible or not.

Steps to connect to a WPS® compatible assess point and below.  For steps on how to connect to a non-compatible router, please refer to the standard router connection.


WPS connection

  1. Check the router. Confirm that it is on and ready for communication.

  2. Remove any inserted memory cards or USB flash drives.

  3. ​Insert a loaded paper cassette and an ink cassette in SELPHY.

  4. Tap the home button .

  5. Tap the up or down.  right or left arrow   to select Wi-Fi Settings, and then tap OK.

  1. Choose the connection method. Tap the up or down arrow  to select Via Wi-Fi Network, then tap OK.

  1. Tap the up  or down  arrow to select Via Wi-Fi Network, then tap OK.

  1. Tap the up  or down  arrow to select WPS Connection, then tap OK.

  1. Tap the up  or down  arrow to select PBC Method, then tap OK.

  • The screen below is displayed.

  1. On the access point, hold down the WPS connection button for a few seconds.

  For details on where the button is located and how long to press it, check the access point user manual.

  1. On the printer, tap OK. Connecting is displayed on the printer, followed by Connected to access point when connected. Tap OK.

  •  The screen below is displayed, indicating the name of the access point.

  • If you selected PIN Method in step 6, use the computer to specify the PIN code (displayed on the printer) on the access point, select the OK button on the printer, and go to step.

    • For instructions on configuring PIN codes, refer to the access point user manual.

  1. Please proceed to preparing the computer


Standard router connection

  1. Check the access point. Confirm that the access point is on and ready for communication.

  2. Remove any inserted memory cards or USB flash drives.

  3. ​Insert a loaded paper cassette and an ink cassette into the SELPHY printer.

  4. Access the setting screen. Tap the home button .

  5. Tap the up or down, left or right arrow    to select Wi-Fi Settings, then tap OK.

  1. Tap the up  or down  arrow to select Via Wi-Fi Network, then tap OK.

  1. Tap the up  or down  arrow to select Search for an access point, then tap OK.

  1. Tap the up  or down  arrow to select your access point, then tap OK.

  1. Tap MENU to access the input screen, and then enter the password. Tap OK.

  1. Check the access point. Once the printer is connected to the access point, the screen this screen displays. Check the indicated access point name and tap OK.


 

Computer setup

 In this section, Windows 7 is used as an example. The on-screen displays and operations may differ depending on the operating system.

  1. Installing the printer drivers

  • Download the printer driver from the Canon homepage and install it on your computer.

  • Connect to the Internet from a computer and access http://www.canon.com/icpd/.

  • Select your country/region and follow the instructions displayed to complete the download.

  1. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. If the following screen is displayed, tap Yes.

  1. The following screen appears. Tap Next.

  1. Read the license agreement and if you agree to the terms, tap Yes.

  1. Choose the connection method.

  • When the screen below is displays, (1) select Use with a wireless network and (2) click Next.

  1. To complete the installation process, choose the printer to connect to.

      If your printer is not detected, make sure that your computer is connected to your network.

  • Choose the printer to connect to from the list (1), and then tap Next (2).

  • You may need to temporarily disable any firewalls on your computer if the printer is not detected on the network.

  1. The printer driver is installed.



Print

From a computer
  1. Confirm that the SELPHY printer is connected to the access point.  The screen below should display on the printer.

  1. Access the printing dialog box. Start the photo software, select images to print, and access the printing dialog box. As the destination printer, select Canon (SELPHY) CP1300.

  2. Choose a paper size that matches the paper and ink cassette in the SELPHY. Choose bordered or borderless printing, the printing orientation and number of copies, as desired.

  3. Tap Print.

  • Printing in progress cannot be canceled from the printer by using the  button. Use the computer to stop printing.

    • For computer or photo software instructions, refer to the relevant user manual.

From a mobile device or camera
  1. Confirm the screen below displays, indicating the name of the access point.

  • The SSID is displays in the lower right of the Home screen.

  1. To print after the first connection, select this SSID on your smartphone or camera.

  2. Check the password as follows.

  • Tap the  Wi-Fi button.

  • Tap the up  or down  arrow to select Display Wi-Fi status, then tap OK.

  • Tap the OK button to display the password.
