Learn how to print and scan with your PIXMA TS5120 without the use of wireless router via the Wireless Direct connection.

 

Solution

Follow the procedures below to use Wireless Direct.

 You can connect up to 5 devices to the printer at the same time.
 

Change the printer settings to use Wireless Direct

  1. Make sure that the printer is turned on.

  2. Select the Setup icon  on the HOME screen.

  3. Select the Settings icon. 

  4. Select the Device settings icon. 

  5. Select LAN settings.

  6. Select Wireless Direct.

  7. Select Wireless Direct active/inactive.

  8. Select ON.

 The option to display the password confirmation information screen appears.

  • The password is required when connecting a device to the printer. Based on the device you use, no password is required.

  • When you connect a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device to the printer, select the device name displayed on the printer's touch screen from your device.

  1. Select Yes or No.

  2. The list of Wireless Direct settings is displayed. The device detects the printer by the identifier (SSID).

 You can check a setting item below:

  • SSID

  • Security setting

  • Password

  • Printer's name, which appears on a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device

  • The identifier (SSID) and the security setting are specified automatically, but you can also update them.

  1. Select OK. The Wireless Direct mode is enabled and a device can be connected to the printer wirelessly.
     

Connect the device to the printer

  1. Enable Wi-Fi on your device's setting menu. For more information about Wi-Fi® function, see your device's instruction manual.

  2. Select DIRECT-XXXX-TS5100series (X represents alphanumeric characters) from list displayed on device.

     If DIRECT-XXXX-TS5100series does not appear on the list, Wireless Direct is not enabled.

  3. Enter the password. Your device is connected to the printer.

     Based on your device, a password is required to connect it to the printer via Wi-Fi. Enter the password specified for the printer.

 If your device is set to prioritize Wi-Fi Direct, the printer displays a confirmation screen that will ask you to allow the device to connect.

  • Make sure the name on the printer's LCD is the same as that of your wireless communication device and select Yes.
     

Print and scan with Wireless Direct

  1. After the device and the printer are connected, you can start to print and scan from the program of your choice. Refer to the device's or program's instruction manual if you have any questions.

  2. You can print or scan from your smartphone or tablet via the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app. Download it from the App Store and Google Play.
     

Change Wireless Direct settings

 If you change the Wireless Direct setting of the printer, also change the wireless router setting of the device.

  1. Make sure printer is turned on.

  2. Select the Setup icon  on the HOME screen.

  3. Select the Settings icon. 

  4. Select the Device settings icon. 

  5. Select LAN settings.

  6. Select Wireless Direct.

  7. Select a setting item.

  • Change SSID/device name:
    • Select (A) to display the identifier setting screen (SSID).

    • Select the entry field.

    • Enter the identifier (SSID) (up to 32 characters).

    • Select Auto update or OK.

      • Auto update displays the confirmation screen. To update the identifier (SSID) and the password, select Yes. To check the security setting and the updated identifier (SSID)/password, select Details and select Yes on the screen displayed.

      • OK specifies the selected identifier (SSID).

  • Change password:
    • Select (B) to display the password setting screen.

    • Select the entry field.

    • Enter the password (up to 10 characters).

    • Select Auto update or OK.

      • Auto update displays the confirmation screen. To update the identifier (SSID) and the password, select Yes. To check the security setting and the updated identifier (SSID)/password, select Details and select Yes on the screen displayed.

      • OK specifies the selected identifier (SSID).

  • Connection request confirmation:
    • Select (C) to display the confirmation screen.

    • If you want the printer to display the screen to inform you a Wi-Fi direct compatible device will connect to the printer, select Yes.

 To prevent an unauthorized access, we recommend you should not change the setting from the default.

  • Wireless Direct setting list:

    • Select (D) to display the confirmation screen.

    • To check the current Wireless Direct settings, select Yes.

 If you select Print details, you can print the network settings information sheet.

  1. Press the HOME button. The HOME screen is displayed.
