Installing / Replacing Ink Tanks

Skip to step 4 if installing ink for the first time

1. Make sure that the printer is turned on and open the cartridge cover.

2. Press the <CARTRIDGE> button to move the cartridge holder to the center.

3. If you have the BC-11e Color BJ Cartridge installed:

Press in and lift the white tab to remove the BCI-11 Color Ink Tank.
Press in and lift the gray tab to remove the BCI-11 Black Ink Tank.

If you have the BC-10 Black BJ Cartridge installed:

Press in and lift the gray tab to remove the BCI-10 Black Ink Tank.

If you have the BC-12e Photo BJ Cartridge installed:

Press in and lift the white tab to remove the BCI-12 Color Ink Tank.
Press in and lift the gray tab to remove the BCI-12 Black Ink Tank.

Do not touch the green tab.

Note: You do not remove the BJ cartridge when you replace an ink tank. Leave the BJ cartridge installed in the printer.

4. Select a new ink tank; be sure to use the same type that you removed from the printer. Remove the new ink tank from its package and remove the orange protective cap.

 

To avoid interfering with the flow of ink and to ensure optimum performance of the BJ cartridge, do not touch the open ink port on an ink tank.

5. Install the ink tank.

With the label up, set the ink tank in the BJ cartridge at a slight angle, then gently press down on the left, raised end of the ink tank until it locks in place.

If you have a BC-11e Color BJ Cartridge installed:

Align the marks on the ink tank with the marks ( ) on the BJ cartridge.
Press down on the left side until you hear the ink tank lock in place.


If you have a BC-10 Black BJ Cartridge installed:

Align the marks on the ink tank with the marks ( ) on the BJ cartridge.
Press down on the left side until you hear the ink tank lock in place.

6. Close the cartridge cover and press the <CARTRIDGE> button.

The printer moves the cartridge holder to the home position and automatically starts cleaning the print heads. The POWER light flashes during the print head cleaning. Print head cleaning is complete and the printer is ready for operation when the POWER light remains on.
