Configuring Silent Shooting (EOS 5DS / EOS 5DS R)

Solution

You can suppress the camera noise when performing viewfinder shooting and Live View shooting.

Configuring the Setting for Viewfinder Shooting

The setting procedure is explained below.

1. Set the camera's power switch to [ON].

2. Press the [ DRIVE・AF ] button.

3. While looking at the LCD panel or viewfinder, turn the [ ] dial to select [ ] or [ ].

: Silent single shooting Single shooting with less shooting sound than [ ] during viewfinder shooting.
: Silent continuous shooting Continuous shooting with less shooting sound than [ ] during viewfinder shooting. The continuous shooting speed will be approx. 3.0 shots/sec.

IMPORTANT
During Live View shooting and movie shooting, shooting will not be silent even if [ ] or [ ] is set.

4. Shoot.
IMPORTANT
If [ ] or [ ] is set, the time lag from when you press the shutter button completely until the picture is shot will be slightly longer than standard.

Configuring the Setting for Live View Shooting

The setting procedure is explained below.

1. Set the camera's power switch to [ON].

2. Set the Mode Dial to [ P / Tv / Av / M / B ].

3. Set the Live View shooting/Movie shooting switch is set to [ ].

4. Press the [ MENU ] button to display the menu screen.

5. Press the [ ] button and select the [ ] tab.

6. Turn the [ ] dial to select the [ ] tab.

7. Turn the [ ] dial to select [Silent LV shoot.], then press [ ].

8. Turn the [ ] dial to select [Mode 1] or [Mode 2], then press [ ].

Mode 1 You can suppress the camera noise when shooting. Continuous shooting is also possible. If [ ] is set, you can shoot at a maximum continuous shooting speed of approx. 5.0 fps.
Mode 2 When the shutter button is pressed completely, only one shot will be taken. While you keep holding down the shutter button, the camera operation will be suspended. Then when you return to the shutter button’s halfway position, the camera operation will resume. The shooting noise is thereby minimized. Even if continuous shooting is set, only a single shot will be taken.
Disable Be sure to set it to [Disable] if you use a TS-E lens* for shifting or tilting the lens or if you use an Extension Tube. If [Mode 1] or [Mode 2] is set, the standard exposure may not be obtained, or an irregular exposure may result.
*With the TS-E17mm f/4L or TS-E24mm f/3.5L II lens, you can use [Mode 1] or [Mode 2].

IMPORTANT
  • If you use [Mode 1] with continuous shooting, the [Disable] setting will be applied to the second and subsequent shots.
  • When shooting with flash, the [Disable] setting will be applied regardless of the [Silent LV shoot.] setting. (Silent shooting cannot be performed.)
  • When using a non-Canon flash unit, set it to [Disable]. The flash will not fire if it is set to [Mode 1] or [Mode 2].
  • If [Mode 2] is set and you use a Remote Controller, the operation will be the same as with [Mode 1].

9. Shoot.
