Description

Setting the Descreen and Unsharp Mask options (5000F, 8000F, 3000ex/3000F, 3200F, 4200F)

Solution

Adjusting the Descreen or Unsharp Mask Settings

Descreen and Unsharp Mask will be found on the Settings tab of ScanGear in Advanced Mode.

To access these functions:

  1. Open ScanGear from the desired application (ex.- Toolbox, PhotoStudio, etc.).

  2. If not already in Advanced Mode, click on the 'Advanced Mode' button.

  3. Click the 'Settings' tab.

  4. Check or uncheck the 'Descreen' and 'Unsharp Mask' options as desired.

Descreen

Turn the [Descreen] function on (click to place a check mark in the check box) when you are scanning photos or pictures from print publications, such as books or magazines.

*Photos and pictures in books and magazines are reproduced as collections of fine dots. If they are scanned without descreening, interference between dots takes place and dark stripes or patterns, called moir é, appear on the image.
The Descreen function reduces this effect.

*The Descreen function is disabled when the Color Mode category is set to Black and White or Text Enhanced (Windows only).

*The Descreen function is disabled at output resolutions of 601 dpi or more.

*If the Unsharp Mask function is turned on, some moir é may persist even if the Descreen function is turned on. Under these circumstances, turn the Unsharp Mask function off.

*The Descreen function is disabled when the 'When application hides driver user interface' option is selected in the Preferences settings. However, if CanoScan Toolbox is used to scan without opening ScanGear CS, the Descreen function is activated when the scan mode is set to Color (Magazine).

*When ScanGear CS is first installed, this function is turned off by default.

Unsharp Mask

Turn the [Unsharp Mask] function on (click to place a check mark in the check box) to sharpen outlines in an image.
This function is effective when an image's focus is fuzzy. It enhances the crispness of the overall image.

*You are recommended to turn the Unsharp Mask function off when the required degree of moir é is not being reduced even with the Descreen function turned on.

*When ScanGear CS is first installed, this function is turned on by default.
