Automatic software update failed for R series scanners on macOS 11.4 (and later)

Answer

While using our automatic software update function for the R series scanners it will appear that the download is running and the installation is complete, but in fact, the installation has failed and you will be told that the latest version is available again. This is because disk access to the updater is being blocked by the security system of macOS.

To resolve this, follow these steps:
  • Go to <System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Files and Folders>.
  • Allow Full Disk Access for the updater (check box).
    
                                            1. Click on the padlock icon to unlock it and allow changes.
                                            2. Check the box next to "jp.co.canon-elec.AutoUpdateHelper".
