Description

Learn how to remove a paper jam from a PIXMA MG2420 or MG2520.

Solution

If paper is jammed in your PIXMA printer, review the appropriate section in the article below for help.

  • Section 1: You can see the jammed paper in the paper output slot or the rear tray.

  • Section 2: You can't see the paper or can't remove it.

  • Section 3: Other cases.

Section 1: You can see the jammed paper in the paper output slot or the rear tray

If you can see the jammed paper, follow these steps:
  1. Press the Stop button to cancel active print jobs, then turn off the machine.

  2. Hold the paper with both hands, and slowly pull it out from the rear tray or paper output slot at the front (whichever is easier).

  3. If you can't pull the paper out, turn the machine off then back on. The paper may eject automatically.

  4. Reload the paper, and press the machine's Black or Color button to restart the print job.

Section 2: You can't see the paper or can't remove it.

If the jammed paper tears and you can't remove it, or if the paper is stuck inside the machine, follow these steps:
  1. Press the Stop button to cancel active print jobs, then turn off and unplug the machine.

  2. Open the paper output tray, then open the cover.

  3. Don't touch the clear film (A). If the paper or your hands touch the clear film and blot or scratch it, the machine can be damaged.

  4. If paper is under the FINE cartridge holder, slide the FINE cartridge holder slowly to the right or left edge (whichever is easier to remove the paper).

  5. Hold the jammed (or curled) paper with both hands and slowly pull it out.

  6. Make sure all the jammed paper is removed.
    • Is there any paper under the FINE cartridge holder?

    • Are there any small pieces of paper inside the machine?

    • Is there any paper on the right or the left space (B) at the sides of the machine?

Figure (B) shows spaces at the right and left sides of the cartridge holder

  7. Close the cover and reprint if necessary.

Section 3: In other cases

Check the following:
  • Are there any foreign objects around the paper output slot?

  • Are there any foreign objects in the rear tray?
If there are any foreign objects, be sure to turn off the machine, unplug it from the power supply, then remove the object.

  • Is the paper curled?
Load the paper after correcting its curl.

Important to know

  • When reloading the paper, confirm that you're using paper compatible with the machine and load it correctly.

  • If the paper jam message appears again, a piece of paper may remain inside the machine. In this case, confirm that no paper remains.
