Setting up the scanner to scan film (9900F)

Solution

Setting up the Scanner to Scan Film

You can scan 35 mm films (strips or slides), 120 films and 4"x5" films with this scanner.

Positioning the Film

Use the following procedures to insert the film into the Film Guide.

  • Make sure that the FAU Cable is connected to the FAU connector on the back of the scanner.  Additionally, make sure the scanner is powered on by pressing the power button on the front of the scanner.
  1. To remove the protective sheet from the document cover, slide the protective sheet up and out to free it from the tabs at the top.
Slide the sheet up again and out to free it from  the tabs at the bottom.

When you have finished scanning, fit the holes at the bottom end of the protective sheet over the tabs at the bottom of the document cover and slide the protective sheet down.  Repeat the procedure for the top end.  This will help to protect the light source under the document cover.

  2. Set the film and the Film Guide.

    • Hold the film by the edges with your fingertips to avoid getting fingerprints or dirt on the film surface.
    • Use a blower brush to remove any dust from the film, document glass or light source of the document cover.
    • Do not block the calibration slot on the Film Guide when you are scanning film.
Colors will not be scanned correctly if the calibration slot is obstructed.

    35mm Film Strips
Pinch to open the film holder on the film guide for 35 mm strips.  Hold the film face down and tuck the ends under the tabs on the film holder.  Two or more film strips in the film holder are scanned in order starting from the right end of the bottom strip.

    120 and 4" x 5" Film
Open the film holder on the film guide for 120 and 4" x 5" format films, place the film face down and close the film holder.

    • 120 and 4" x 5" format films cannot be scanned together at the same time.  Place only one in the film guide at a time.

    35mm Slides
Position the film guide for slides on the document glass (see Step 3) and place one or more slides face down in the film guide as shown.

    • If there is a gap between the film guide and the film, place black paper over the gap to shield it.

  3. Place the film guide on the document glass of the scanner.  Align the smaller tab on the side of the film guide with the FILM mark on the document glass of the scanner.

    • Do not block the calibration slot on the film guide when you are scanning film.  Colors will not scan correctly if the calibration slot is obstructed.

  4. Close the document cover.
