Learn how to connect your PIXMA MX882 printer to your Mac over your wireless netwok.
Solution
Before you begin
In most cases, Easy Setup will be used to connect the printer to your access point or router.Before you continue, you must gather the following information for the installation.
- An Access Point Name, also known as an SSID. This is the name of your wireless network.
- A Network key, also known as an encryption key, WEP key or WPA/WPA2 passphrase, or Pre-Shared key.
This is the password to connect to your wireless network.
- If you forgot the access point name / network name (SSID), the network key, you don't know them, you can confirm them using Canon PIXMA Wireless Setup Assistant.
For details on how to check the following information, refer to the manual of your access point or router, or contact its manufacturer.
Prepare the printer for wireless connection.
- Press the Setup button (A), and use the or button (B) to select Wireless LAN setup, and press OK.
- Use the or button (C) to select Yes, then press the OK button.
- Select Easy setup, then press the OK button.

Select the access point name you wrote down, then press the OK button.

If you live in an apartment, access points in use nearby may also be detected.

The access point names with 2-byte characters aren't displayed properly, however, can be selected.

Make sure that one of these screens is displayed, then press the OK button.
If these screens are not displayed, go to step 8.

Enter the network key you wrote down, then press the left Function button (E).
The center Function button allows you to switch between lowecase, uppercase, numbers, and symbols.
The password entry is case-sensitive, so be sure you enter the password correctly.
- Use the buttons (G) to enter your password, then press the OK button to enter it.
- Repeat 1 and 2 to enter more characters. After you enter all characters you need, press the left Function button (E).

To insert a space, select Space on the on-screen keyboard and press the OK button.

To insert characters, select the section (H) of the screen using the or button, move the cursor to the character on the right of the target position using the or button, then enter
characters. -
To delete a character, select the section (H) of the screen using the or button, move the cursor to the target character using the or button, then press the right Function button (I).
- Confirm that your password is correct, then press the left Function button.
- When this screen appears, press the OK button.
If a connection still can't be established, refer to the printed manual: Network Setup Troubleshooting.
Install the Software
The installation process takes about 20 minutes, but can vary depending on the computer environment or the number of applications to be installed.
Before proceeding, check these items.

Quit all running applications before installation.

If the firewall function of your security software is turned on, a warning message may appear that Canon software is attempting to access the network.
If you see that message, set the security software to always allow access. -
Log on as the administrator (or a member of the Administrators group).

Don't switch users during the installation process.
-
An internet connection may be required during the installation. Connection fees may apply. Consult your internet service provider.

You may need to restart your computer during the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions and don't remove the Setup CD-ROM during restart.
The installation resumes once your computer has restarted.
Written Instructions
- Turn on the computer, then insert the Setup CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
If you're using Windows, the setup program starts automatically.
- Double-click the Setup icon of the CD-ROM folder to proceed to the following screen. Enter your administrator name and password, then select OK.
- If the CD-ROM folder doesn't open automatically, double-select the CD-ROM icon on the desktop.
- If you don't know your administrator name or password, select the help button, then follow the on-screen instructions.
- Select Easy Install.
The drivers, application software, and on-screen manuals are installed.
If you want to select particular items to install, select Custom Install.
Safari 4 or later (Mac OS X v.10.5 or later) is required to use this software. An Internet connection is required for installation.
- Select Install.

Select Use the printer with wireless LAN connection, then select Next.
Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.
- When the Printer Detection screen appears, select Next.
- When the Detected Printers List dialog box appears, select Canon MX xxx series, then select Next.
xxx refers to the model name you're using.
- The printer is turned on.
- The firewall Function of any security software is turned off.
- The computer is connected to the access point.
- When the Register Printer and Scanner screen appears, select Register Printer.
- If you have Mac OS X v.10.6.x v.10.5.x, Select Canon xxx series canonijnetwork and select Add.
- If you have Mac OS X v.10.4.11, When the Printer List window appears, select Add.
- When the You have no printers available. screen appears, select Add.
- select More Printers in the Printer Browser window.
- Select Canon IJ Network in the pop-up menu, select Canon xxx series in the list of printers, then select Add.
- Make sure that Canon xxx series is added to the list of printers.
- When the Register Printer and Scanner screen appears, select Register Scanner.
- Select Canon xxx series on the Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX screen, then select OK.
- Select Next on the Register Printer and Scanner screen.
- Select Next.
- Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.
- The Extended Survey Program screen appears.
- select Exit to complete the installation.
You'll need to restart the computer before scanning using the Operation Panel on the printer for the first time.
The buttons displayed on Solution Menu EX may vary depending on the country or region of purchase.
- Remove the Setup CD-ROM and keep it in a safe place.
Check Printer Settings
During the wireless setup in the software installation, when the Check Printer Settings dialog box is displayed, try these solutions in order.
- Confirm the condition for the wireless connection

Make sure all devices, namely, i) printer, ii) access point or iii) router is powered On. Then, turn Off every device and turn them ON again.

Set the printer near the access point or the router to perform the setup.
- Select Redetect to continue the setup.
- Confirm the connection between the printer and the access point or between the printer and the router
- Confirm that the WiFi lamp is ON.

If the WiFi lamp is not ON, the wireless Function of the printer is not enabled yet.
Please do the wireless setting again. - From the operation panel of the printer, confirm the connection by following the steps below.
- Push the Setup button on the operation panel, shown above as (A).
- Use the or button to select Device settings then push the OK button.
- Use the or button to select LAN settings then push the OK button.
- Use the or button to select Confirm LAN settings then push the OK button.
- Use the or button to select WLAN setting list then push the OK button..

When WLAN setting list is displayed, confirm that Active is displayed in Connection.
If Inactive is not displayed in Connection , the printer is not connected with the access point or the router.
Please do the wireless setting again. -
You might have entered an incorrect network key.
Please enter the correct network key from the operation panel -
If you forgot the network key, you may be able to retrieve it using the Canon PIXMA Wireless Setup Assistant.
If you can't obtain it, refer to the instruction manual for the access point or the router, or you may contact each manufacturer for help.
- Review the setting of the Firewall security software
- The Firewall software may be interfering with the necessary network communication for the wireless setup
- Perform the software installation with the Firewall security software paused. Refer to your security software's manual or contact its manufacturer.
- After the installation is completed, activate the Firewall security software again. When the message alerting that Canon software is about to access the network is displayed on the computer
screen, select Allow
- Review the setting of the access point or the router

MAC address filtering Function is enabled.
Change the setting of the access point so that the MAC address of the printer can be permitted. -
The same SSID is used between the computer and the printer, and the Privacy Separator Function is enabled.
Disable the Privacy Separator Function.

The different SSID is used between the computer and the printer, and the Privacy Separator Function is enabled.
Use the same SSID for the computer as the one for the printer.
- Confirm the MAC address of the printer
- Push the Setup button on the operation panel, shown as (A).
- Use the or button to select Device settings then push the OK button
- Use the or button to select LAN settings then push the OK button.
- Use the or button to select Confirm LAN settings then push the OK button.
- Use the or button to select WLAN setting list then push the OK button.
- When WLAN setting list is displayed, confirm the MAC address using the or button.
