To use ScanTastic to perform scans on its own:

Click the 'Open ScanTastic Central' button on the MultiPASS Toolbar

-or-

Choose 'ScanTastic Central' from the Apple menu


-or-

Double-click the 'ScanTastic Central' icon in the MultiPASS Desktop Manager folder on your hard drive.

Selecting Attributes

When you launch ScanTastic the ScanTastic window appears with the Attributes panel displayed. Before scanning, adjust the quality and scaling attributes, these attributes cannot be changed after the page has been scanned.

To adjust image quality, select a scanning resolution, based on the resolution capabilities of the MultiPASS or other device to which you are outputting your scanned image, from the pop-up menu on the left.

The Quality options are:

  • Low: Best for images destined for display on a computer screen.
  • Normal: Best for scanned images that will be printed in Normal resolution mode on your MultiPASS C555 printer.
  • High: Best for scanned images that will be printed in Best resolution mode on your MultiPASS C555 printer.
  • OCR: Best for images you wish to send via a fax modem or to an OCR program such as TextBridge pro.
  • Manual: Allows you to set a custom resolution.

To reduce or enlarge the size of your scanned image, enter a percentage for reduction or enlargement in the edit field on the right of the Attributes panel.

Once you have adjusted the quality and scaling attributes, insert a page into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) and click the 'Start' button in the lower right hand corner of the Attributes panel or press the <Start> button on the front panel of the MultiPASS. The page feeds into the MultiPASS and the image appears in the preview screen. You can adjust and enhance the image with ScanTastic before saving or printing it.

Note: If the Toolbar application is running and ScanTastic is not, pressing the <Start> button on the MultiPASS will initiate the action you have configured in the Toolbar.

Cropping Images

ScanTastic automatically suggests a crop for your scanned image, but you can also manually select an area to scan. To access the cropping controls click on the Cropping tab.


To crop an image, click and drag a rectangle inside the preview zone to surround the area of the image you wish to scan. To alter the selection, move the pointer to the edge or center of the selection rectangle, then click and drag to adjust the boundaries.

To select the entire scannable area, press Command+A (select All). To cancel a selection, press Command+D (Deselect).

Another method of selecting an area to scan is to type width and height dimensions in the edit fields at the bottom of the cropping panel. Once you have entered the dimensions you can move the box manually by clicking and dragging it.

To enlarge the selected area, double click inside the box.

Adjusting Image Exposure

Click on the Exposure tab to access the image exposure controls.


Select 'Auto Adjust' to have ScanTastic perform a pre-adjustment of the image exposure. To alter the brightness or contrast of an image, click on the slider handles and drag them left or right.

Adjusting Image Focus

Click on the Focus tab to access the focus controls.


To alter image sharpness click on the slider handle and drag it left or right.

Adjusting Color

Click on the Color tab to access the color controls.


To alter the color cast of an image, click on the Hue slider handle and drag it left or right.

To alter the color saturation of the image, click on the Intensity slider handle and drag it left or right.

Selecting and Adding Setups

You can save all the settings you make into setups which can be used by the MultiPASS toolbar application. To access the setups panel click on the Setups tab.


To save a new group of settings, click 'New Setup', the new setup window appears. Type a name for your new setup and click 'Save', your setup will be saved and added to the list on the right of the setup window.

To rename a setup, click 'Rename', type a new name for your setup and click 'save'.

To apply a previously saved setup, to your scanned image, select a setup from the list on the right and click 'Apply'.

To delete a previously saved setup, select the setup you wish to delete from the list on the right and click 'Delete'.

Saving and Printing Documents

Once you have selected an area to scan and adjusted the ScanTastic settings you are ready to scan and save the final image.


To save the image click 'Save'. In the dialog that appears, select the type of file you would like the imaged saved as, name the file and choose a location for the file to be saved. Click 'Save'.

To discard all scanning from this session click 'Cancel'.

To launch TextBridge Pro so that you can save the scanned image as text, click 'OCR' (not shown). For instructions on how to save the scanned image as text see your TextBridge Pro documentation. The OCR button is only available if you have TextBridge Pro installed.

Note: The OCR functions from this button are automatic. You cannot make any adjustments to the scanned image.

To continue scanning click 'Scan More' or insert another sheet into the MultiPASS and press the <Start> button on the front panel.

To print to your currently selected printer without saving the files click 'Print'.
