Unable to receive a fax (C530,C560,C545)

Check the phone line cord connections.

If you cannot receive a fax, confirm the phone line cords are properly connected. The MultiPASS has three telephone jacks (located on the left side of the unit) that will accept standard phone line cord connections.

On the left side of the MultiPASS, connect one end of the supplied line cord to the bottom 'L' jack on the MultiPASS. Attach the other end of the line cord to the telephone wall jack. The other two jacks are pass-through ports to connect other devices to the MultiPASS and your telephone service.

Note: If you use Caller ID, connect the Caller ID device between the MultiPASS 'L' port and the telephone wall jack.

You can connect a telephone or answering machine to the top jack on the left side of the MultiPASS. This jack is represented by a telephone handset icon. The middle port on the unit can connect a computer modem to the telephone line. The middle port can also be used as an additional jack if, for instance, the attached answering machine does not have a telephone port and you would like to connect an extension phone.

Verify the Receive Mode is properly set. Look to the right of the date on the MultiPASS LCD to confirm the setting.

You can manually change the setting by pressing the <RECEIVE MODE> button repeatedly until you find the selection you want. Once you find your selection, press the <START/SCAN> button. The new setting will now be visible.

Fax/Tel mode setting.

If you have only one telephone line and plan to use the MultiPASS for automatic fax reception and voice calls, then changes to the receive mode settings will not be necessary. The unit defaults to Fax/Tel Mode and this setting will appear next to the date on the LCD. To utilize the Fax/Tel switching capability of the unit and effectively answer voice calls, a telephone must be attached to the MultiPASS. A cordless phone is recommended.

If [AnsMode] or [Manual] appear to the right of the date on the LCD, then press the <RECEIVE MODE> button repeatedly until [Fax/Tel Mode] displays and then press the <START/SCAN> button. The display will return to standby and the date and correct receive mode will appear. If [Fax Only Mode] or [DRPD] appear, then change the RX Mode Setting. (See below for instructions).

Answering machine mode setting.

When an answering machine is connected to the MultiPASS, all incoming calls are first directed to the answering device.

Keep the answering machine's outgoing message less than 12 seconds. In the message, you may want to include "To send a fax, start transmission now; to leave a message speak after the beep."

Set the answering machine to answer on the first or second ring. Check your answering machine's Owner's Manual for instructions.

Confirm one end of the supplied telephone line is connected to the jack marked 'L' on the left side of the MultiPASS. The other end of the line should connect to telephone wall jack. Connect the answering machine to the top jack marked by the telephone handset icon on the side of the MultiPASS.

If [AnsMode] does not appear to the right of the date on the MultiPASS LCD , then press the <RECEIVE MODE> button repeatedly until [AnsMode] displays and then press the <START/SCAN> button. The display will return to standby and the date and correct receive mode will appear. If [DRPD] appears, change the RX Mode Setting. (See below for instructions).

RX Mode Setting

  1. Press <FUNCTION> on the MultiPASS One-touch panel.
  2. Press <DATA REGISTRATION> (One-touch button '01').
  3. Press <SET> (User Settings will display).
  4. Press the up arrow (One-touch button '02') until [RX Settings] appears. Press <SET>.
  5. Press the up arrow (One-touch button '02') until [RX Mode] displays. Press <SET>.
  6. Press the up arrow (One-touch button '02') again to display [Fax/Tel Auto SW]. Press <SET>.
  7. Press <STOP> to return to standby.
  8. Now press the <RECEIVE MODE> button repeatedly until either [Fax/Tel] or [AnsMode] appears and then press the <START/SCAN> button.
  9. Verify that your receive mode option displays to the right of the date on the MultiPASS LCD. If it does not, then press the <RECEIVE MODE> button repeatedly to display the correct setting and then press the <START/SCAN> button.
