Description

Change the communication mode from PTP to Normal (PowerShot G3, S230, and S45)

Solution

Change the camera's communication mode from PTP to Normal (PowerShot G3, S230, and S45)

The PowerShot's G3, S230, and S45 offer a setting that allows driverless operation called PTP with newer operating systems (Mac OS 10.1up, Windows XP and newer). However this mode does not allow the cameras to communicate with Canon software, instead the cameras will only connect with the operating system native applications (Image Capture, IPhoto for Macintosh and Scanner and Camera Wizard for Windows). If communication with the Canon provided applications is desired the Canon Digital Camera Solutions Disk CD-Rom provided with the camera must be installed prior to the camera being connected. Also the cameras communication mode must be set to "Normal".

To change the communication mode from "Normal" to "PTP"

  1. Press the <MENU> button and use the left or right arrows on the multi controller to select the (Tools) menu.
  2. In the (Tools) menu use the up or down buttons to select "Communication Mode" and press the <SET> button.
  3. Use the left or right buttons to select "Normal" or "PTP" and press <SET>.
  4. Press the <MENU> button again to exit the menu.
