Description

Learn how to clear a "Printer is Offline message if it appears when you try to print on a PIXMA MP495 or MP499.

Solution

If you get a "Printer is offline" message, check the following:
  • Make sure that the printer is plugged in and powered ON.

  • Make sure that the printer and computer are connected to the same network.
To verify this, print out the network settings and check the listing for the SSID.  Make sure it matches the name of the network your computer is connected to.
Check the network name from Windows or Check the network name from a Mac®.

  • If the printer is far away from your wireless router, move it closer. When the printer is far from the router, its signal strength may be low.
To check signal strength, print out the network settings. The higher the percentage, the stronger the signal.

  • Restart the printer and wireless router.
This can often restore network communication.

  • If you're using the printer via USB, reseat the cable to make sure the connections are secure.
Also, make sure the printer is connected directly to the computer and not into a USB hub.

  • If you're using a Windows PC, make sure that the "Use Printer Offline" option isn't enabled.  To check, follow this procedure.

    1. Hold down the Windows key  on the keyboard and type the letter R. This opens a Run box.

  1. In the Run box, type control printers, and select OK.

  2. Right-click on the icon for your printer, then select See what's printing.

Printer selected from Printer list, then right-click opens pop-up menu where "See what's printing" is selected.

  3. Select the Printer menu, then remove the check from Use Printer Offline.

If you still need help

If the above steps don't resolve the problem, check the following:
  • Make sure you're sending the print job to the correct printer.

Example:  You mistakenly send the print job to a printer that you no longer use. If this case, you will get an error.

Print job sent to wrong printer:
