Turn the camera toward the subject and look into the viewfinder to insurer that the meter needle swings and rest still somewhere between the upper and lower exposure metering index marks . Then turn the shutter speed dial and /or the aperture ring until the circular aperture needle bisects the meter needle. These are the steps for getting the correct exposure.
