Description

Understand and resolve support codes that display on a PIXMA MX490 / MX492.

Solution

A support code appears on the LCD and the computer screen when an error occurs.

When an error occurs, check the support code displayed on the LCD or the computer screen and see the table below to find the appropriate action to resolve the error.

 

List of support codes

Support Code Cause Action
1300 Paper is jammed in the paper output slot. Remove the jammed paper.
1303 Paper is jammed inside the machine at the transport unit. Remove the jammed paper from the transport unit.
2801 Document is jammed in the ADF (Auto Document Feeder). Remove the jammed document from the ADF.
1401 The ink cartridge is not installed.

Install the cartridge, see how to replace the cartridge.

If the error is not resolved, the cartridge may be damaged. Service is required.

1403 The ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

Appropriate ink cartridge is not installed.

Printing cannot be executed because the cartridge is not compatible with this machine.

Install the appropriate ink cartridge, see how to replace the cartridge

To cancel the print job, tap Stop.

168A The ink cartridge is not installed properly or compatible with this printer.

Open the paper output cover, then remove the cartridges.

Make sure that the cartridge is compatible with the printer.

Reinstall the cartridges, see how to replace the cartridge. Push up the cartridge until it clicks into place.

Once installed, close the paper output cover.

1684 The ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

The ink cartridge may not be installed properly or may not be compatible with this printer.

Make sure the correct cartridges are installed. See how to replace the cartridge.

To cancel the print job, press Stop.

1682 The ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

Replace the ink cartridge.

If the error is not resolved, the cartridge may be damaged. Service is required.

1686 The ink may have run out.

The function for checking ink levels may be disabled so levels can't be detected.

If you want to print without this function, press Stop for at least 5 seconds.

Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble caused by continuation of printing under the ink out condition.

If the function for detecting ink levels is disabled, is displayed on the LCD.

1688 The ink has run out.

Replace the cartridge and close the paper output cover.

If you want to continue  to print, press Stop button for at least 5 seconds with the empty cartridge installed. The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled.

Replace the empty ink cartridge immediately after the printing.

The resulting print quality is not satisfactory, if  you print under the ink out condition.

If the function for detecting ink levels is disabled, is displayed on the LCD.

2900 Scan of the print head alignment sheet has failed.

Press OK, to dismiss the error, then follow the steps below.

  • Make sure the print head alignment sheet is set correctly glass.

  • Make sure the glass and the sheet are not dirty.

  • Make sure the paper type and size is suitable for automatic print head alignment.

    • Use one sheet of A4 or Letter-sized paper.

  • Make sure if print head nozzles are not clogged.

    • Print the nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print head.

If the error is not resolved, perform a manual print head alignment.

An error requiring you to contact the service center has occurred.

You may be able to recover from this error by replacing the ink cartridges.

5100 Printer error has occurred.

Cancel the print job and turn the printer off.

  • Remove any materials (e.g. the protective material or jammed paper) that could prevent the cartridge holder from moving.

  • Confirm that the cartridges are properly installed.

    • Push up the FINE cartridge until it clicks into place.

Once done, turn the printer On again.

If the problem is not resolved, service is required.

When you clear the jammed paper or protective material, be careful not to touch the clear film.

Printer error has occurred.

Generally these codes indicate an error has occurred that requires service. 

Turn the machine off, and unplug the power cord from the power supply.

Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

There are two options currently available to you.

  1. Warranty Service – If you are within the 1-year manufacturer’s warranty and have your proof of purchase you are entitled to service or replacement. If you have purchased a CarePak Canon extended warranty, you may be entitled to additional options.  Please create or log into your Canon Account to obtain service.
     
  2. Out of Warranty – If you are outside of your warranty period, you may qualify for purchasing a replacement through the Canon Upgrade Program. Please contact our Sales group to inquire about your upgrade options at 866-443-8002.

6910 Network error has occurred.

Turn off all other devices on the network.

Set the IPv6 settings of the machine to Inactive.

Place the machine in a different location.

If the problem is not resolved, service is required.

  1. Select Setup on the operation panel.

  2. Select Device settings.

  3. Select LAN settings.

  4. Select Other settings.

  5. Select TCP/IP settings.

  6. Select IPv6.

  7. When a message displays, select Yes.

  8. Select Enable/disable IPv6.

  9. In the screen displayed, select Inactive.
