Learn how to connect your PIXMA MX490 / MX492 to a wireless network (LAN) using the cableless setup method and your Windows PC

Solution

Cableless setup is the easiest method to connect your printer wirelessly.

 

Before you begin

Gather the following information.

  • Router name / network name (SSID).

  • Network Key, also referred to as an encryption key, WEP key or WPA / WPA2 passphrase, Pre-Shared key.

Refer to your router manual if you need help with this information.


There are two parts to the setup.

  1. Start the setup process on your printer.

  2. Download and run the setup file on your computer.



1. Start the setup process on your printer

  1. Turn the printer ON and quit all running applications.

  2. Tap Setup (A) on the printer.

  3. Use the left or right arrow  (B) to select Wireless LAN setup, then tap OK.

  4. Select Other setup, then tap OK.

  5. Select Cableless setup, then tap OK.


     


2. Download and run the setup file on your computer

  1. Log in to your computer as an administrator and quit all running applications.

  2. Download the printer driver and software package.

    Tip You can also insert the Setup CD. If the CD doesn't start, double-click on (My) Computer > CDROM icon > MSETUP4.EXE. Then, go to Step 4 to continue.

  3. Select Download.

  4. Save the file to your computer, then double-click on the downloaded .exe file. Setup starts automatically.

  5. Select Next.

  6. Select Wireless LAN Connection.

  7. Select Connect via wireless router (recommended).

  8. Select Next.

  9. Select Cableless setup.

    If the .NET Framework screen appears, select Yes.

  10. Select Next. Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

  11. When the Setup Completion screen appears, select Complete.

  12. Select Next.

  13. Select Agree or Do not agree to the Extended Survey Program.

  14. Select Execute to run a rest print, or Next to continue.

  15. Select Exit to complete the installation. Wireless setup is now complete.
