Setting scan methods for the SCAN button (Mac OS X) - MX850

Solution

Scanning using the Operation Panel (USB connection)

You can scan documents using the operation panel.

Important

Do not disconnect or connect the USB cable while the machine is in use.

To launch MP Navigator EX automatically when the Color Start or Black Start button on the machine is pressed, configure Image Capture (in the Applications folder of Mac OS X) to set MP Navigator EX as the application to launch. This setting required when you are using Mac OS X v.10.3.x (10.3.9 or later).

Selecting a Response to Commands from the Operation Panel

1. Press the SCAN button on the machine.

The machine enters Scan Mode.

2. Select Local (USB) from Select PC.

3. Select the Document type.

To scan from the platen, select Document (platen) or Photo (platen). To scan from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder), select Document (ADF simplex) or Document (ADF duplex).

Reference

Select Document (ADF duplex) to scan sides of the documents automatically.

When Document (ADF duplex) is selected, you can specify how to output the paper after scanning from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder).

4. Place the documents face-down on the platen.
Alternatively, load the documents face-up on the ADF (Auto Document Feeder).

Important

When Photo (platen) is selected for Document Type, allow 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the platen and the document. If not, some images may not be scanned at the correct positions and sizes.

Business cards, panorama photographs and bordered photographs may not be cropped accurately when scanned. In that case, disable Compress scanned images when transferring in the Scanner Buttons Settings tab of the Preferences dialog box and scan again.

5. Select what to do with the scanned image from Scanned data processing.

The following scan modes are displayed:

Save to PC: Scan and save documents.

Save as PDF file: Scan documents and save them as PDF files.

Attach to E-mail: Scan documents and attach them to e-mail by using an e-mail software program.

Open with application: Scan documents and open them with a specific application.

Advanced settings for these modes can be changed from your computer.

See Selecting a Response to Commands from the Operation Panel with MP Navigator EX.

Important

You cannot select Save as PDF file, if you select Photo (platen) in Document type.

6. Press the Color Start or Black Start button on the machine.

The document placed on the platen or ADF (Auto Document Feeder) will be scanned, and the action selected in Step 5 will be performed.
