Solution

Reset Print Center / Reinstall the MP Drivers

It may be necessary to reset the Printing System. Uninstall then reinstall the drivers if error messages occur or if the device does not operate correctly.

Note:

  • Reset Printing System should only be used as a "last resort" for troubleshooting a printing issue. When multiple Canon inkjet printer drivers or Canon scanner drivers such as ScanGear MP or ScanGear CS are installed in the computer, perform the following to delete them ALL. (You cannot choose which one to delete or which one to keep.) Install the printer driver with the CD-ROM prepackaged with the printer or download it from the Canon website to reinstall.
  • Reset Printing System is available only in versions 10.4.x and 10.5.x of the Mac OS X operating system
  • Login with a user name with the Computer administrator account type to delete the MP drivers. Regarding Administrator users, please refer to the Mac OS X owner's manual.

Reset Printing System:

10.4.x

  1. In the Finder, choose 'Utilities' from the Go menu.

  2. Open Printer Setup Utility.

  3. From the Printer Setup Utility menu, choose 'Reset Printing System'.

  4. Click 'Reset'.

    Note: If Printer Setup Utility won't open at all (possibly due to your printing issue), you can try to access the Reset Printing System feature directly by holding down the Option key while opening Printer Setup Utility.

10.5.x

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.

  2. Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.

  3. Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. If you don't see a list of printers, Control-click on the text "Click + to add a printer or fax" and select "Reset printing system..."

    As an alternative, if you currently have one or more printers listed, you can Option-click the "-" (Remove printer) button.

Uninstalling the MP Drviers

  1. Close all running applications - including antivirus software.

  2. Disconnect the USB cable at the printer.

  3. Open Applications, Utilities, and double-click the 'Printer Setup Utility' icon**

    .**Leopard (10.5.x) users click here.

    Note: Printer Setup Utility varies depending on the Mac OS X version.
    When your Mac OS X version is older than Ver. 10.3.x, double-click Print Center.



    * The image is an example using Mac OS X Ver. 10.3.

  4. In the Printer List dialog, select all the printers added to the Printer List and then click 'Delete'.

    Note: Select all the printers registered in the Printer List. Even if the specific model name is not deleted in this step, it will not be available in the next step.



  5. Open Library, Printers, Canon, and BJPrinter.



  6. In the File menu, select 'Move To Trash'.

    Note: All the other installed Canon printer drivers will be deleted.



  7. Similarly, open Library, Image Capture, and TWAIN Data Sources, and move Canon MPXXX.ds to the trash.



  8. In the Finder menu, select 'Empty Trash' to delete them.



  9. In the Apple menu, click 'Restart'.



  10. Reinstall the drivers.

Deleting the Printer from the Printer List (Mac OS X ver 10.5.x)

1.In the Apple menu, open System Preferences.

2. Open Print and Fax.

3. Be sure that the printer to be deleted is highlighted in the Printers section.

4. Click the Minus (-) sign, then click 'OK' on the confirmation message. The printer is deleted.

5. Return to Step 5 of uninstall instructions , above .

Reinstall the Drivers

NOTE: Screenshots for Mac OS X Ver. 10.3.x are used in the following procedures.

  1. Connect the printer to the computer with the USB cable and confirm that the printer is powered on.

  2. Turn on the computer to start Mac OS X.

  3. Login as an Administrator of the computer if shared by multiple users (accounts) on Mac OS X.

  4. Disable or close any antivirus and firewall software that may prevent the installation from completing properly.

  5. Insert the setup CD-ROM into the CD-ROM tray.

    NOTE: If the folder in the CD-ROM does not open automatically, double-click the 'CANON IJ' icon on the desktop.

  6. Double-click the 'Setup' icon.



  7. When the following window is displayed, enter the administrator name and the password, and click 'OK'.

    Note: When you do not know the administrator name and the password, click the 'A' icon.



  8. Select the language you are using.

    Note: This window will not be displayed in some areas.

  9. Select your place of residence and click 'Next'.

    Note: This window will not be displayed in some areas.



    Note: The printer drivers can be installed using 'Easy Install' or 'Custom Install'.

  10. Click the desired method of installation.

    Note: 'Easy Install' enables the automatic installation of the MP drivers, application software, and the on-screen manual. 'Custom Install' allows the user choose whether or not to install the MP Drivers, application software and the on-screen manual individually.

    The following instructions apply to the 'Easy Install' option.

  11. Click 'Easy Install'.



  12. Click 'Install'.


    *Display may vary depending on the printer.

  13. Read the License Agreement carefully and if you agree, click 'Yes'. (The installation will begin automatically.)

  14. When the Print Head Alignment window is displayed, click 'Next'.

    Note: The window will not be displayed depending on the printer model.



  15. Click 'Restart'.

Note: If the installation fails before fully completing, please install the MP drivers again. In some circumstances uninstallation may be required before attempting to install again.
