Description

Procedure for setting the AF mode PowerShot SD880 IS and SD990 IS.

Solution

Switching between Autofocus Modes AiAF.

Although the autofocus function is preset to the AiAF setting (nine AF frames), you can set it to the center AF frame. When the center AF frame is selected, the AF frame will appear in the LCD monitor. The AF frame does not appear when AiAF is selected.

Face Detect

You can have the camera automatically detect the position of a face and use this data to set the focus and exposure* while shooting. In addition, the camera will meter the subject so that the face is correctly illuminated when the flash fires. If a face is not detected, shooting will take place with [On].

*Only in evaluative metering mode

AiAF

The camera detects the subject and highlights the AF frames, from 9 available points, that it will use to determine the focus.

Center

The camera focuses using the center AF frame. This is convenient for focusing on a specific part of a subject with greater certainty.

The symbol represents the AF frames as they appear in the LCD monitor.

* Only available in the evaluative metering mode.

  1. Press the <MENU> button.
  2. In the (Rec.) menu, select [AF Frame].

  3. Use the or button to select [Face Detect], [AiAF] or [Center]. You can shoot right after selecting an option by pressing the shutter button.
  4. Press the <MENU> button again to return to the Rec. screen

The center AF frame mode is used when the digital zoom is activated.

The LCD monitor must be set to display and cannot be off in order for the Face Detect focus mode to be available. If the LCD monitor is turned off, the Face Detect feature will not operate.
