To ensure reliable operation and data integrity the VIXIA HG20 and HG21 camcorders cannot be powered off while they are actively connected to a computer. To turn the camcorder off please use the proper safe device removal procedures for your computers operating system and then disconnect the USB cable. Once the cable has been removed the camera will then be able to be powered off.

For Windows or Mac please follow the below procedure to perform safe device removal.

1. Close the software application.
   
2. For Windows users click the "safely remove hardware" icon in the systems tray.
   
3. For Macintosh users move the icon of the camcorder to the "trashcan".
   - As the camcorders drive icon is moved to the trashcan the trashcan will display an eject icon.
   
4. Once the device has been safely removed from the operating system you may now disconnect the USB cable from the computer and turn off camcorder.
