Locking the Exposure Setting (AE Lock)

You can set the exposure and focus separately. This is effective when the contrast is too strong between the subject and background or when a subject is backlit.

  • AE lock is only available in the P, Av, and Tv mode.
  • Be sure the flash is lowered as this setting cannot be used with the flash on.
  1. Focus the camera on the subject on which you wish to lock the exposure setting.

  2. While pressing the shutter button down halfway press the button.
    - The exposure setting will lock and the will display.
  3. Re-aim the camera to compose the shot. Press the shutter fully to take the picture.
    - To release the AE lock, press any button other than the or button.

The AE lock may be released by pressing the zoom lever, <MENU> button or button, or by changing the white balance, ISO speed, photo effect or the shooting mode.
