Installing the MP drivers using the prepackaged CD-ROM (Mac OS X)

To enable printing and scanning from the computer, it is first necessary to install the MP drivers onto the hard disk of the computer. Please follow the instructions below to install the MP drivers from the prepackaged CD-ROM onto the Mac OS X computer.

Note: Screenshots for Mac OS X Ver. 10.4.x are used in the following procedures.

  1. Connect the printer to the computer with the USB cable and confirm that the printer is powered on.

  2. Turn on the computer to start Mac OS X.

  3. Login as an Administrator of the computer if shared by multiple users (accounts) on Mac OS X.

  4. Disable or close any antivirus and firewall software that may prevent the installation from completing properly.

  5. Insert the setup CD-ROM into the CD-ROM tray.

    Note: If the folder in the CD-ROM does not open automatically, double-click the 'CANON IJ' icon on the desktop.

  6. Double-click the 'Setup' icon.



  7. If the following window is appears, enter the administrator name and the password, and then click 'OK'. The CD-ROM starts automatically and the main installation window will appear.

    Note: When you do not know the administrator name and the password, click the '?' (A) icon.



  8. Click the desired method of installation - Easy Install or Custom Install.

    Note: 'Easy Install' enables the automatic installation of the MP drivers, application software, and the on-screen manual. 'Custom Install' allows you to choose whether or not to install the MP Drivers, application software and the on-screen manual separately.


    Selecting Easy Install:

    a. Click 'Easy Install'.



    b. At the Easy Install window, click 'Install'.



    Note: The display may vary depending on the printer.

    c. Click here to continue with the installation.



    Selecting Custom Install:

    a. At the main install window, click 'Custom Install'.

    b. At the Custom Install window, check 'MP Drivers' and the application software to be installed, and then click 'Next'.



    c. Click here to continue with the installation.

  9. When the License Agreement window appears, read the content carefully and click 'Yes'. The installation starts.

  10. When the Print Head Alignment window appears, click 'Next'.

    Note: The window will appear depending on the printer model.

  11. When the Installation Results window is displayed, click 'Restart'.

    Caution: If installation fails halfway through the installation, cancel the installation and attempt to install the MP Drivers again.

    Installing MP Drivers is completed.

    When the computer restarts, the Canon IJ Network Tool will start up automatically if Easy Install was selected or Canon IJ Network Tool was selected when using Custom Install .

  12. When the Canon IJ Network Tool screen appears, select USB connection, then click OK.




    Note : When using Mac OS X v.10.3.9, before using the Operation Panel on the machine to save scanned originals to the computer, it is necessary to select MP Navigator EX as the launch application on Image Capture under Applications. For details, refer to "Scanning Images" in the User's Guide on-screen manual.
