Resolve Error Codes - PIXMA MP240 Printer

Description

Learn how to resolve error codes displayed on the LED screen of your PIXMA MP240.

Solution

When a printer error occurs, an error code displays on the printer screen along with flashing lights.

Note the error code number and way the lights flash, then refer to the appropriate table below for help.

  • Table 1: The light flashes repeatedly orange.

  • Table 2: The light flashes alternately between green and orange.

Error Code Cause Action

E, 2

The machine is out of paper or Paper does not feed.

E, 3

Paper jam.

E, 4
E, 5

The ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

E, 7

Cartridge isn't installed in the correct position.

E, 8

Ink absorber is almost full.

  • The machine has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used during print head cleaning.

  • Select Black or Color to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the ink absorber becomes completely full, it will need to be replaced

  • When the ink absorber is completely full, the printer requires service.

E, 9

The machine has not received a response from the digital camera.

The digital camera or digital video camcorder connected isn't compatible with this machine.

  • A communication time out occurs if an operation takes too long or if it takes too much time to send data. This may cancel printing. In such cases, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.

  • When printing from a PictBridge compliant device, depending on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a PictBridge compliant print mode on the device before connecting it to the machine. You may also have to turn on your device or select Play mode manually after connecting the device to the machine. Perform necessary operations before connecting your device referring to its instruction manual.

  • If the error still isn't resolved, check to see if you can print another photograph.

  • Check the device connected to the machine. Printing photos directly is possible only with a PictBridge compliant device.

E, 1, 3

Ink level cannot be detected.

  • Ink may have run out, replace an ink cartridge.

  • The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled since the ink level cannot be correctly detected.

  • If you want to continue printing without this function, press Stop/Reset for at least 5 seconds.

  • Canon recommends to use new genuine Canon cartridges in order to obtain optimum qualities.

  • Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble caused by continuation of printing under the ink out condition.

E, 1, 4

The cartridge cannot be recognized.

E, 1, 5

The cartridge cannot be recognized.

E, 1, 6

Ink has run out.

  • Replace the ink cartridge and close the scanning unit cover.

  • If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press Stop/Reset for at least 5 seconds with the ink cartridge installed. Then printing can continue under the ink out condition.

  • The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled.

  • Replace the empty ink cartridge immediately after the printing. Print quality may not be satisfactory if you continue to print under the ink out condition.

E, 1, 9

PictBridge compliant device is connected via a USB hub.

  • If a PictBridge compliant device is connected via a USB hub, remove the hub and connect it directly to the machine.

E, 3, 0

The size of the original cannot be correctly detected or the document is too small when Fit-to-Page copying is selected.

E, 3, 1

The machine isn't connected with the computer.

E, 5, 0

E, 5, 1

Scanning the print head alignment sheet has failed.

Service is required.

  • Turn off the machine, and unplug the power cord of the machine from the power supply.

  • Plug the power cord of the machine back in, and then turn on the machine.

  • If the error persists, the printer will require servicing.
    There are two options currently available to you.

    1. Warranty Service – If you are within the 1-year manufacturer’s warranty and have your proof of purchase you are entitled to service or replacement. If you have purchased a CarePak Canon extended warranty, you may be entitled to additional options.  Please create or log into your Canon Account to obtain service.
       
    2. Out of Warranty – If you are outside of your warranty period, you may qualify for purchasing a replacement through the Canon Upgrade Program. Please contact our Sales group to inquire about your upgrade options at 866-443-8002.
