Solution
Before you begin
MP Navigator EX has different modes on the Navigation Mode screen.
Scan/Import will allow you to select the type of media you wish to scan.
One-click mode will allow you scan your media based on the icon you click
Scan with Scan/Import Mode
Scan documents such as photographs and text on the platen.
1. On the Windows desktop, double-click the MP Navigator EX icon.
You can also use the Windows taskbar. Click Start, point to (All) Programs, Canon Utilities, then MP Navigator EX. Then click MP Navigator EX
The MP Navigator EX navigation mode screen or one-click mode screen opens.
If the One-click mode screen opened, click the (Switch Mode) button to switch to the navigation mode screen.
If the Show this window at startup checkbox is not selected, the last used screen opens.
2. Point to Scan/Import and click Photos/Documents (Platen).
3. Place the document face-down on the platen, and select the Document Type.

If you select Color Photo or Black and White Photo, the position or size of the image may not be scanned correctly
if you don't leave 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the platen and the document.
If you select Magazine(Color), the Descreen function will be enabled and scanning takes longer than usual.
To reset the Descreen function, disable Descreen in the Scan Settings dialog box.
Select Text(OCR) to convert hand-written text or image data of printed text to text data with OCR software.
4. Click Specify... and set the Document Size and Scanning Resolution.
5. Click Scan. When the scan is completed, the Scan Complete dialog box will open. Select Scan to scan the next document, or Exit to end.
Once you click Exit, the scanned image appears in the Thumbnail List area.
6. Select the images you wish to edit using the edit tools function.
Drag the mouse or use Shift + arrow keys to select multiple images. An orange frame appears around your selections.
7. Click 'Save' or 'Save as PDF' file.
8. Specify the following settings as required:
When Save is selected
You can't select JPEG/Exif when the Document Type is Text(OCR).
When Save as PDF file is selected

Select from the following PDF file types:

PDF (Add Page) |
Selected images are added to a specified PDF file. The images are added to the end of the PDF file. You cannot rearrange pages of the PDF file to which images are added.

PDF(Multiple Pages) is displayed when multiple images are selected.
9. Click 'Save', and the images are saved according to the settings
To use or edit the scanned images, click Open saved location in the Save Complete dialog box. The saved images appear in the View & Use screen.
Scan with One-click Mode
You can scan and save easily by simply clicking the corresponding icon.
1. Place the document face-down on the platen.
2. On the Windows desktop, double-click the MP Navigator EX icon.
The MP Navigator EX navigation mode screen or one-click mode screen opens.
If the Navigation mode screen opened, click the (Switch Mode) button to switch to the One-click screen.
If the Show this window at startup checkbox is not selected, the last used screen opens.
3. Click the corresponding icon.
Save to PC/Save
When you click this icon, the Save dialog box opens and you can specify the scan/save settings
Save as PDF file/PDF
The PDF dialog box opens when you click this button. Specify the scan/save settings and scan.
Attach to E-mail/Mail
The Mail dialog box opens when you click this button. Specify the save settings and e-mail software program, and scan.
OCR
When you click this icon, the OCR dialog box opens and you can specify the scan/save settings.

Custom
PDF Settings
In the PDF Settings dialog box, you can specify the PDF compression type and other advanced settings when creating PDF files.
Select this checkbox to convert characters in a document to text data. This will enable an easy search by keyword.
Document Language
Select the language of the document to be scanned.
Detect the orientation of text documents and rotate images
Select this checkbox to detect the orientation of the document from the scanned text and rotate the scanned image to the correct orientation.
The orientation of the following types of documents may not be corrected, as the text cannot be detected correctly.
- Resolution is outside the range of 300 dpi to 600 dpi.
- Font size is outside the range of 8 points to 48 points.
- Documents containing special fonts, effects, italics, or hand-written text.
- Documents with patterned backgrounds.

Correct slanted document

- Documents in which the text lines are inclined more than 10 degrees or the angles vary by line.
- Documents containing vertical and horizontal text.
- Documents with extremely large or small fonts.
- Documents with small amount of text.
- Documents containing figures/images or hand-written text.
- Documents containing vertical and horizontal lines (tables).
PDF Compression
There are two types of compression you can select for saving scans.
- Standard -- It is recommended that you normally select this setting.
- High -- Compresses the file size when saving, allowing you to reduce the load on your network/server.

Set passwords for opening, editing and printing the created PDF files.

Good to know

MP Navigator EX is compatible with the following e-mail software programs
- Windows Mail (Windows Vista)
- Outlook Express (Windows XP/Windows 2000
- Microsoft Outlook

The following images can be compressed with high efficiency.
- Images with resolutions within the range of 75 dpi to 600 dpi.
