Before you begin
Before changing the print quality settings, there are a few things to know:
-
The printer's quality settings control how finely ink droplets are placed on the printed page.
-
Paper can affect print quality. Setting the machine to a higher print quality doesn't always mean you'll get better print.
-
Print speed decreases as the print quality setting increases.
Change the Print Quality Settings (Windows)
Follow the instructions below to change the print quality settings through a printing application.
-
Select the command you use to start a print job from your printer application. (In general, select File > Print to open the Print dialog box.)
-
Select your printer model name and click Preferences (or Properties). The printer driver setup window appears.
-
Set the desired print quality in the Print Quality section: High, Standard, or Draft / Fast.
To set more detailed print quality settings, follow this procedure:
- From the Main tab, select Custom then Set.

- In the Set Print Quality screen, drag the slide bar from Fast to Fine to select the print quality.
There are five options in Quality; however, selectable options are limited depending on the media type.
-
Select Auto, Dither, or Diffusion from the Halftoning section.
-
Halftones are color shades between the darkest and brightest color. The printer replaces the color shades with a collection of small dots to create halftones.
-
Dither arranges the dots according to fixed rules to express the halftones.
-
Diffusion places the dots randomly to express the halftones.
-
Auto means the data is printed with the optimal halftoning method for the selected print quality.
