Locking the Flash Exposure Setting (FE Lock)

You can lock the flash exposure so that the exposure settings are correctly set for a particular portion of your subject..

  • FE lock is only available in the P, Av, and Tv modes.
  • You must raise the flash so that it will fire. The FE lock cannot be set if the flash is disabled.
  1. Raise the Flash and set the camera to the P, Av, or Tv mode.
  2. Press the Multi Controller towards (Flash Icon) and then use or to select (Flash on) then focus the camera on the subject on which you wish to lock the flash exposure setting.


  3. While pressing the shutter button halfway down press the button.

    - The flash will fire and the will display.
  4. Re-aim the camera to compose the shot. Press the shutter fully to take the picture. To release the FE lock, operate a button other than the Multi Controller dial.

The FE lock may be released by pressing the zoom lever, <MENU> button or button, or by changing the white balance, ISO speed, photo effect or the shooting mode.

The FE lock cannot be used when [Flash Mode] in the [Flash Settings] menu is set to [Manual].
