Solution

Some of our products have multiple "custom media information (.am1)" and "ICC profiles (.icm)". It is important to understand the differences of the files, and which to select for your specific end-use.

Some of our ink-jet medias have multiple end-uses. To satisfy all of these uses, we offer different "custom media information files (.am1)" and "ICC profiles (.icm)" that are suited for a specific end-use. The main difference between these multiple files is the use of a "dark" black ink.

Your printer contains two different "dark" black inks; "photo black" and "matte black". In some instances, the photo black ink has a higher degree of scratch resistance and water resistance when compared to the matte black ink. On the other hand, the matte black ink may yield a higher optical black density, and/or a higher color gamut vs. the photo black in. Knowing which "dark" black ink to use is the key to a successful ink-jet print. The "custom media information file (.am1)" automatically selects which "dark" black ink is used.

If you encounter multiple "custom media information files (.am1)" and "ICC profiles (.icm)", the difference between the two files will be described in the actual file name, i.e. "Product X (Water Resistant)", or "Product X (High Color Gamut)". The description in the file name is not absolute, it is merely a comparison between the two options. (One will have a higher color gamut than the other, or the other is more water resistant than the other).

When you successfully import the "custom media information files (.am1)" into your printer, the description will be abbreviated; i.e. "Water Resistant" will be "WR", "Scratch Resistant" will be "SR" and "High Color Gamut" will be "HCG". The description will NOT be abbreviated in the print driver.

Our "transparent" or backlit" products have ; "transmissive (backlit)" & "reflective (front lit)" ICC profiles. Please refer to the actual ICC profile name to determine which is "front lit" or "backlit".

When printing, be sure you match the proper ICC profile with the custom media file you are using.
