Solution

Selecting a Still Image Shooting Mode

You can take an optimal picture simply by selecting the appropriate shooting mode.

Turn the Mode Select switch to select AUTO, (Camera), or (Movie). Depending on the shooting mode selected will determine which still image shooting modes are available.

Auto

Leaves almost all of the settings choices up to the camera.

Camera

P

Program AE

Lets you adjust the exposure, white balance, photo effect and other settings yourself.

Portrait

Produces a soft effect when photographing people.

Night Snapshot

Use this to take snapshots of people against twilight or night backgrounds to reduce the effects of camera shake even without using a tripod.

Kids&Pets

Allows you to capture subjects that move around, such as children and pets, without missing photo opportunities.

Indoor

Prevents camera shake and maintains the subject's true color when shooting under florescent or tungsten lightning. The exposure is regulated so as to avoid the use of flash as much as possible.

Low Light*

Depending on the scene, the ISO speed will be set higher and the shutter speed faster than when using AUTO mode so that you can shoot in dark places with reduced camera shake and subject blur.

Recording will be set at 1600 x 1200 resolution.

Beach*

Shoots without making people appear dark near water or sand where reflected sunlight is strong.

Foliage*

Shoots trees and leaves - such as new growth, autumn leaves or blossoms - in vivid colors.

Underwater*

Lets you shoot underwater with the Waterproof Case WP-DC36 (sold separately).

Snow*

Shoots without a blue tinge and without making people appear dark against a snowy background.

Fireworks*

Captures fireworks in the sky sharply and at optimal exposure.

Movie

Allows you to shoot movie clips and sound with the camera.

* Available as Special Scene Modes when using the SCN option selectable on the Mode Switch.

1. Slide the mode switch to (Camera).

2. Press the <FUNC./SET> button and use the or button to select a shooting mode.

4. Press the <FUNC./SET> button to complete the setting.

  • The slow shutter speed in the (Fireworks) mode makes it necessary to use a tripod to avoid camera shake.
  • In , , , modes, the ISO speed may increase and cause noise in the image.
  • In mode , shoot with the subject 1 - 4 m (39 in. - 3.3 ft.) (telephoto range zoom settings)/1 m (39 in.) - infinity (non-telephoto range zoom settings) from the end of the lens.
  • In the (underwater) mode, the waterproof case WP-DC36 is required to take the camera under the water. It is also recommended that the Waterproof Case WP-DC36 be used in situations where sand, moisture, or snow are present to protect the camera from liquid damage.
  • Results may vary depending on the subject.
  • In mode, you are recommended to use the LCD monitor to shoot.
