Solution
The VIXIA HF R series camcorder cannot take still photos while an alternate frame rate is set.
You cannot take photos when [Frame Rate] is set to [PF30] or [PF24]. Also, you cannot take photos when the digital zoom is activated (light blue and dark blue area's on the zoom bar.)
