Uninstalling / reinstalling the wireless MX870 MP drivers (Windows)

Description

Perform the following procedure to uninstall and reinstall the MP drivers.

Solution

Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver

If the MP Navigator EX or the MP drivers are no longer required, or if they are not installed correctly, uninstall them.

Caution: Uninstalling means deleting software, such as MP drivers, from the computer. Once the software has been deleted the unit cannot be used through the computer until the software has been reinstalled.

Note: Login as a user with Administrator privileges to uninstall . Turn off any programs running in the background, such as anti-virus and firewall programs before beginning.

The procedure to delete the unnecessary MP Drivers is as follows:

When There is an Uninstaller

  1. Start the uninstaller.
    • If you are using Windows 7, Windows Vista, select the Start menu -> All Programs -> "Your model name" -> MP Drivers Uninstaller.
    • If you are using Windows XP, select the start menu -> All Programs -> "Your model name" -> MP Drivers Uninstaller.
    • The MP Drivers Uninstaller dialog box is displayed.


      Note:
    • In Windows 7 or Windows Vista, a confirmation/warning dialog box may appear when starting, installing or uninstalling software.
    • This dialog box appears when administrative rights are required to perform a task.
    • When you are logged on to an administrator account, click Yes (or Continue, Allow) to continue.
    • Some applications require an administrator account to continue. When you are logged on to a standard account, switch to an administrator account, and restart the operation from the beginning.


  2. Execute the uninstaller.
    1. Click Execute. When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
    2. When all the files have been deleted, click Complete.
      The deletion of the MP Drivers is complete.

      Note: Printer driver and scanner driver (ScanGear) will be deleted when you uninstall the MP Drivers.

  3. Now, install the wireless MP Drivers.


When There is No Uninstaller

When there is no uninstaller in the Start menu of Windows 7 or Windows Vista, follow these steps:

  1. Select the printer to be deleted.
    1. If you are using Windows 7, select the Start menu -> Devices and Printers.
    2. If you are using Windows Vista, select the Start menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Printers.
    3. Click the model to delete, then press the Alt key on your keyboard. On the File menu, click Delete.

  2. Delete the printer.
    1. If you are using Windows 7, when the confirmation message appears, click Yes. Then when the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Yes.
      The icon is deleted.
    2. If you are using Windows Vista, when the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Continue. Then when the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
      The icon is deleted.

  3. Select the printer driver to be deleted.
    1. If you are using Windows 7, click any icon in Printers and Faxes.
    2. On the commandbar, click Print server properties, and then click the Drivers tab. If the Change Driver Settings button is displayed, click that button.
    3. When the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Yes.
    4. In the Installed printer drivers list, click the printer to delete.
    5. If you are using Windows Vista, press the Alt key. On the File menu, select Run as administrator, and then click Server Properties.
    6. When the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Continue.
    7. Click the Drivers tab.
    8. In the Installed printer drivers list, click the printer to delete.

  4. Delete the printer driver.
    1. When you click Remove, Remove Driver And Package dialog box is displayed.
    2. Select Remove driver and driver package, and then click OK.
    3. In the confirmation dialog box, click Yes.
    4. When data collection is completed in the Remove Driver Package dialog box, click Delete.

  5. Click OK.
    The deletion of the printer driver is complete.

    Note: You may not be able to delete the printer driver properly from the Installed printer drivers list.
    If this happens, restart your computer, and then try again.

  6. Now, install the wireless MP Drivers.

Wireless LAN Setup

This is the recommended installation when you use the machine on a computer connected to a network.

Wireless Setup

Note: Before connecting the machine to the network, the computer needs to be connected to the network. Make sure that configuration of the computer and access point or router is complete.

Add (connect) the machine to the network.

A: Internet

B: Access point or wireless router, etc.


Notes on Wireless Connection
  • The configuration, router functions, setup procedures and security settings of the network device vary depending on your system environment. For details, refer to your device's instruction manual or contact its manufacturer.
  • In an office setup, consult your network administrator.
  • If you connect to a network that is not protected with security measures, there is a risk of disclosing data such as your personal information to a third party.
  • The machine cannot be used over a wireless and wired connection at the same time.
  • If an error message appears or if you have trouble with the network connection, refer to the printed manual: Network Setup Troubleshooting.


Important:
An "Ad-hoc connection," which establishes a direct connection to the computer over a wireless connection without using an access point, is not supported. Be sure to prepare an access point.

Wireless Setup Using Easy Setup

Important:

If you have already set up your printer for use on another computer in the same wireless network, it is not necessary to make any further settings on the machine itself. Please skip to Install the Software (Network Connection)

Prepare for Wireless Connection

The following information is required to connect to your access point or router.

Check your access point or router for the following information, then write it down.

Note: For details on how to check the following information, refer to the manual of your access point or router, or contact its manufacturer.

  • Access Point Name/Network Name:
    * Also referred to as SSID. An identifier to identify the specific access point.
  • Network Key:
    * Also referred to as encryption key, WEP key or WPA/WPA2 passphrase, Pre-Shared key.
    A password required to set to prevent unauthorized access to communication.

  1. Press the <Setup> button (A).
    The Setup menu screen is displayed.



  2. Use the or button (B) to select Wireless LAN setup, then press the <OK> button.



  3. Use the or button (C) to select [Yes], then press the <OK> button.
    When wireless connection is enabled, the Wi-Fi lamp (D) lights blue.



  4. Select [Easy setup], then press the <OK> button.



  5. Select the access point name you wrote down, then press the <OK> button.
    If you are living in an apartment, nearby access points in use may be detected.



  6. When one of the below screens is displayed, enter the network key you wrote down using the Numeric buttons (E), then press the <OK> button.
    1. If the above screen is not displayed, go to 8.
    2. Press the button to switch character entry modes.
    3. Enter upper and lower case letters of the alphabet correctly.
    4. For details on character entry, refer to the printed manual: Network Setup Troubleshooting.



  7. Make sure that the network key is correct, then press the <OK> button.



  8. When the below screen appears, press the <OK> button.
    The Setup menu screen returns.
    1. If Failed to connect to the access point appears, press the <OK> button, make sure that the network key is correct, then enter it again.
    2. If a connection still cannot be established, refer to the printed manual: Network Setup Troubleshooting.



  9. Press the <COPY> button (F).
    The copy standby screen is displayed.

Install the Software (Network Connection)

  • To use the machine by connecting it to a computer, software including the drivers needs to be copied (installed) to the computer's hard disk. The installation process takes about 20 minutes. (The installation time varies depending on the computer environment or the number of application software to be installed.)
  • Screens are based on Windows Vista Ultimate.

Note:

  • Quit all running applications before installation.
  • Log on as the administrator (or a member of the Administrators group).
  • Do not switch users during the installation process.
  • Internet connection may be required during the installation. Connection fees may apply. Consult the internet service provider.
  • It may be necessary to restart your computer during the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions and do not remove the Setup CD-ROM during restarting. The installation resumes once your computer has restarted.
  • If the firewall function of your security software is turned on, a warning message may appear that Canon software is attempting to access the network. If such a warning message appears, set the security software to always allow access.

Easy-WebPrint EX
If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or later, you can use the Web print software Easy-WebPrint EX. An internet connection is required for installation.

  1. Turn on the computer, then insert the Setup CDROM into the CD-ROM drive.
    If you are using Windows, the setup program starts automatically.
    1. If the program does not start automatically, double-click the CD-ROM icon in Computer or My Computer.
    2. When the CD-ROM contents appear, double-click MSETUP4.EXE.



  2. For Windows 7 / Windows Vista users:
    1. For Windows XP / Windows 2000, go to step 3.
    2. Click 'Run Msetup4.exe' on the AutoPlay screen, then click 'Continue' or 'Yes' on the User Account Control dialog box.
    3. If the User Account Control dialog box reappears in following steps, click 'Continue' or 'Yes'.



  3. Click 'Easy Install'.The drivers, application software, and on-screen manuals are installed all together.
    If you want to select particular items to install, click 'Custom Install'.

    - For Windows 7/Windows Vista SP1 or later
    You can install the XPS Printer Driver from Custom Install. When installing the XPS Printer Driver, select the MP Drivers at the same time.



  4. Click 'Install'.
    To install Easy-WebPrint EX, you need to connect your computer to the internet at this stage. (Internet Explorer 7 or later is required.)
    If an internet connection is not available, it is also possible to install this software later.



  5. Select Use the printer on network, then click 'Next'.



  6. Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

  7. When the Printer Detection screen appears, click 'Next'.
    1. If the Printer Connection screen appears instead of the Select the printer connection method screen, the connection method is not correctly selected in step 5.
    2. Click 'Cancel' and start again from 4, then be sure to select Use the printer on network in step 5.



  8. When the Detected Printers List dialog box appears, select Canon MX870 series, then click 'Next'.

  9. When the Setup Completion dialog box appears, click 'Complete'.
  10. If the machine is not detected, Check Printer Settings dialog box is displayed. Refer to the printed manual: Network Setup Troubleshooting. Make sure there is no problem, then click 'Next' again on the screen in step 7.

Install the Software (Information)

  1. Click 'Next'.



  2. Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

    - Important Information for the Installation

    Necessary Information for the User Registration

    The product serial number is required when registering the product. The serial number is located inside the machine (as shown in the illustration).



    If the power is on, the Print Head Holder will move when the Scanning Unit (Cover) (A) is opened.

  3. If the Extended Survey Program screen appears
    1. If you can agree to Extended Survey Program, click 'Agree'.
    2. If you click Do not agree, the Extended Survey Program will not be installed. (This has no effect on the machine's functionality.)



  4. Click 'Exit' to complete the installation.

  5. If Restart is displayed, follow the instruction to restart the computer.



  6. Solution Menu starts automatically.

  7. Remove the Setup CD-ROM and keep it in a safe place.

    The buttons displayed on Solution Menu may vary depending on the country or region of purchase.





Using the Machine from Additional Computers

Now that the wireless connection of the machine is complete, it can be used on additional computers on the same network. Follow these instructions to install the software including the drivers on computers that you want to use with the machine. Other settings are not required.

A: Computer from which the machine can be used currently

B: Additional computers on the same network

To use from additional computers

Install the Software (Network Connection)

  • To use the machine by connecting it to a computer, software including the drivers needs to be copied (installed) to the computer's hard disk. The installation process takes about 20 minutes. (The installation time varies depending on the computer environment or the number of application software to be installed.)
  • Screens are based on Windows Vista Ultimate.

  5. Select Use the printer on network, then click 'Next'.



  6. Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

  7. When the Printer Detection screen appears, click 'Next'.
  8. If the Printer Connection screen appears instead of the Select the printer connection method screen, the connection method is not correctly selected in step 5.
  9. Click 'Cancel' and start again from 4, then be sure to select Use the printer on network in step 5.



  10. When the Detected Printers List dialog box appears, select Canon MX870 series, then click 'Next'.

  11. When the Setup Completion dialog box appears, click 'Complete'.



  12. If the machine is not detected, Check Printer Settings dialog box is displayed. Refer to the printed manual: Network Setup Troubleshooting. Make sure there is no problem, then click Next again on the screen in 6.
