Resolve Various Error Codes - PIXMA MP495 / MP499 Printer

Description

Resolve error codes displayed on the LED panel of your PIXMA MP495 or MP499.

Solution

Check the flashing lights and error code displayed on the LED panel and take the appropriate action to correct the error.

  • Alarm lamp is lit orange and the error code as follows is displayed on the LED panel.

  • Power lamp flashes green and alarm lamp flashes orange alternately

    • When the power and alarm lamps flash alternately as shown below, and the error code is displayed on the LED, your printer may need to be serviced.

 

Part 1: Alarm light flashes orange

Error Code Cause Action

E, 0, 2

The machine is out of paper.
Paper does not feed.

  • Reload the paper on the rear tray and select Black or Color.

Paper Output Tray is closed.
Paper jam.

  • If the paper output tray is closed, open it, the machine will start to print.

  • If this does not resolve the problem or if the tray was open to begin with, the paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper, then select Black or Color.

The ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

  • The cartridge may not be installed properly, or may not be compatible with this machine. See supported ink cartridges  for detailed information

  • Open the scan unit cover and install the correct cartridge. Then push the cartridge locking cover until it clicks into place and close the scan unit cover.

Ink cartridge is not installed in the correct position.

Ink absorber is almost full.

 

  • Select Black or Color to continue printing.

  • When the ink absorber becomes full, the printer will require servicing.

The remaining ink level cannot be detected.

 
  • The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled since the ink level cannot be correctly detected.
     
  • If you want to continue printing without this function, press the printer's Stop (Reset) button for at least 5 seconds.

Canon recommends to use new genuine Canon cartridges in order to obtain optimum qualities. See Supported Ink Cartridges for detailed information.

 Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble caused by continuation of printing under the ink out condition.

The ink has run out.

 

  • The ink has run out, see how to replace an ink cartridge.
     
  • Replace the ink cartridge and close the scan unit cover.

  • If you want to continue printing, press the printer's Stop (Reset) button for at least 5 seconds with the cartridge installed. You can continue to print  under the ink out condition.

  • The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled.

  • Replace the empty ink cartridge immediately after printing. The print quality may not be satisfactory, if you continued under the ink out condition.

An error regarding network has occurred.

Additional info:

  • E,2,0: The wireless LAN setting was attempted while other settings were being performed.

  • E,2,1: A timeout error occurred during WPS push button setup.

  • E,2,2: A timeout error occurred during WPS PIN Code setup.

  • E,2,3: In WPS wireless LAN setting, multiple access points were detected.

  • E,2,4: In WPS wireless LAN setting, an error occurred.

Refer to your setup manual or the Network Setup Troubleshooting and take the appropriate action.

The size of the original cannot be detected or the document is too small when the Fit-to-Page copying is selected.

  • Make sure that the original meets the requirements and is correctly loaded on the glass.

  • Check the position and direction of the original loaded on the glass.

The machine is not connected with the computer.

 Scanning via a network using the machine's operator panel is not available

Scanning the print head alignment sheet has failed.

 

For Automatic Print Head Alignment, always load one sheet of A4 or letter-sized plain paper.

  • If the error is not resolved, connect the machine to the computer and align the Print Head on the printer driver.

 

Part 2: Power light is green and alarm light flashes orange

 Be careful not to touch the components inside the machine. The machine may not print out properly if you touch it.

  • Turn off the machine, and unplug the power cord of the machine from the power supply.

In cases other than the above:

 

  • Turn off the machine, and unplug the power cord of the machine from the power supply.

  • Plug the machine back in and turn the machine back on.

  • If the error persists, the printer may require servicing.
