Remove the hot shoe cover from the flash shoe on top of camera.

Solution

If a protective cover is inserted into the hot shoe on top of the camera the on board flash will not pop up (if applicable) or fire. Also the flash symbol will not display on the LCD screen. Remove the hot shoe cover from the flash shoe on top of camera.
