The paper doesn't feed in the rear tray.

Three flashes
|
The front tray or front feed support is closed / Paper jams.
|

If the front tray is closed, open it. The printer will resume.
-
If the front feed support is closed, open it and tap Resume / Cancel on the printer.
-
If the error still remains when the front tray or the front feed support is opened, the paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper in the printer, and then tap Resume / Cancel.

Four flashes
|
An ink tank isn't installed properly / The ink may have run out
|
- If the lamp on the ink tank isn't lit, the ink tank may not be installed properly. Install an appropriate ink tank.
-
If the lamp on the ink tank is flashing, the ink may have run out. Replacing the ink tank is recommended.
-
If a print is in progress and you want to continue, tap Resume / Cancel with the ink tank installed. Then print will continue. Replacing the ink tank is recommended after the print completes. The printer may be damaged if printing continues under the ink out condition.

If multiple ink lamps are flashing, refer to routine maintenance and confirm the status of each ink tank.

Five flashes
|
The print head isn't installed / print head is defective.
|

Follow the directions in your setup manual to install the print head.

If the print head is already installed, remove the print head and reinstall it.

If the error persists, the print head may be damaged. Service is required.

Some ink tanks are not installed in the correct position. Those ink tanks will be flashing.

More than one ink tank of the same color are installed. Those ink tanks will be flashing.

Confirm that the ink tanks are installed in the appropriate positions.

Eight flashes
|
The ink absorber is almost full.
|

Nine flashes
|
The printer hasn't received a response from the digital camera / The digital camera or digital video camcorder connected isn't compatible with this printer.
|

Make sure the device that's connected to the printer is PictBridge compliant.
-
A communication time out occurs if an operation takes too long or if it takes too much time to send data. This may cancel your print. If that happens, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.

Depending on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a PictBridge compliant print mode on the device before you connect it to the printer. You may also have to turn on your device or select play mode manually after you connect the device to the printer. Refer to your device's manual for any necessary settings.

If the error persists, check if you can print another photograph.

Ten flashes
|
The front tray isn't set to its correct position / The front tray was moved during printing.
|

Return the front tray to its normal printing position, make sure that paper is loaded in the rear tray, then tap Resume / Cancel on the printer to resume your print. Refer to loading paper for details about how to return the front tray to its normal printing position.

If you moved the front tray during a print, return the front tray to the correct position, then tap Resume / Cancel on the printer and try your print again.
-
Don't move the front tray while the printer is in operation..

Eleven flashes
|
The automatic print head alignment failed.
The page size setting doesn't match the size of the paper loaded in the printer.
|
When performing an Automatic Print Head Alignment:
- Print head nozzles are clogged.
- Tap Resume / Cancel to dismiss the error, and print the nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print head.
- Paper of size other than A4 or Letter is loaded in the rear tray.
- Tap Resume / Cancel to dismiss the error, then load two sheets of A4/Letter-sized plain paper in the rear tray.
- For Automatic print head Alignment, always load paper on the rear tray.
- The Paper output slot is exposed to strong light.
- Tap Resume / Cancel to dismiss the error, then move your printer so that the Paper output slot isn't exposed directly to strong light.
- If the problem continues after aligning the print head again, tap Resume / Cancel to dismiss the error, and then perform a manual print head alignment.

When printing the nozzle check pattern or performing manual print head alignment:
- A paper size other than A4/Letter-sized paper is loaded.
- Tap Resume / Cancel on the printer to clear the error, and load A4/Letter-sized plain paper in the rear tray. Then try performing again.
When performing an ordinary print job:
-
Tap Resume / Cancel on the printer to clear the error. Then check the Page Size setting in the Page Setup sheet (Windows) or the Page Setup dialog box (Mac) in the printer driver and load paper that is the same size as the setting and try printing again.

If this error occurs even when the paper in the printer is the same as the setting, set the printer driver not to detect the width of the paper.
- Select the Detect paper width check box again once printing is complete, and then select Send.
- Windows
- Select the Custom Settings in the Maintenance tab, clear the Detect paper width check box, and then tap Send.
- Macintosh
- In the Canon IJ Printer Utility, select Custom Settings in the pop-up menu, clear the Detect paper width check box, and then tap Send.

The settings here also apply under direct printing from a digital camera.

Twelve flashes
|
The paper isn't loaded correctly in the front tray
|
|
Thirteen flashes
|
The ink level can't be detected.
|
Printing with an ink tank that was once empty may damage the printer.

If you want to continue printing in this condition, release the function that detects the remaining ink level. Press and hold the Resume / Cancel for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.
-
Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any printer malfunction or damage caused by refilled ink tanks.

If the function that detects the remaining ink level is disabled, the remaining ink level doesn't display correctly on the printer status monitor (Windows) and Canon IJ Printer Utility (Mac).

Fourteen flashes
|
An ink tank can't be recognized.
|
|
Fifteen flashes
|
An ink tank can't be recognized.
|
|
Sixteen flashes
|
The ink has run out.
|
Printing under the current condition may damage the printer.

If you want to continue printing in this condition, release the function that detects the remaining ink level. Press and hold the Resume / Cancel for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.

Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble which may be caused by continuation of printing under the ink out condition.
