Description

Learn how to remove a paper jam from your PIXMA MG3120 or MG3122 printer.

Solution

Follow the steps below to remove a paper jam from the front of the machine (output slot), the back of the machine (transport unit), the inside of the machine, or when duplex printing

Remove a paper jam from the front

If you can see the jammed paper in the paper output slot, follow these steps:

  1. Slowly pull out the paper with both hands so the paper doesn't tear. If you can't pull the paper out, turn the machine off and back on. The paper may eject automatically.
Caution Be careful not to force the paper out or it may damage the machine.

  2. Reload the paper, and tap the Stop / Reset button on the machine.

If you turned off the machine in step 1, all print jobs in the queue will cancel.

To prevent jams, we recommend paper other than A5 size to print documents.

Remove a paper jam from the back

If you can't see the paper at the paper output slot or at the front tray,  you will need to remove the paper from the transport unit.

  1. Turn the machine off, then unplug the power cord.

  2. Close the document cover, then stand the machine up with the right side facing down.

    • If you can see the jammed paper at the front tray, stand the machine with the front tray open.

    •  Stand the machine on a wide and flat surface such as a desk.

    •  When you stand the machine, hold it securely and be careful not to hit it on a hard object.

  3. Push the open lever (A) to open the transport unit.

Caution Support the machine with your hand so it doesn't fall down.

  1. Slowly pull out the jammed paper. If the paper is rolled up, grasp the edge of the paper to remove it.

  2. Close the transport unit and return the printer to it's normal position.

  1. Plug the machine back in and turn it back on.

  2. Reload the paper and reprint if necessary.

Remove paper jams inside the machine

If you can't remove the paper from the front or back of the machine, or if the paper tears and jams inside the machine, following the steps below.

  1. Turn off the machine, and unplug the power cord from the power supply.

  2. Open the paper output cover and remove any paper from the front tray.

Caution Be careful not to touch the clear film (A). If the paper or your hands blot or scratch the film, the machine can be damaged.

  1. If the jammed paper is under the cartridge holder, grasp the holder and slowly slide it to the right or left edge (whichever is easier).

  2. Hold the jammed paper with your hands.

If the paper is rolled up, slowly pull it out.

  3. Make sure that all the jammed paper is removed. Check the following:

    • Is there any paper under the cartridge holder?

    • Is there any small paper still inside the machine?

    • Is there any paper in the right side or the left side space (B) inside the machine?

  4. Close the paper output cover, reload the paper and reprint if necessary.

If an error message displays, a piece of paper may remain inside the machine. If this happens, make sure no piece remains inside the machine.

Remove a paper jam when automatic duplex printing

If the paper is jammed when performing automatic duplex printing, follow the steps below.

  1. Hold the paper with your hands, then pull the paper out slowly so it doesn't tear.

Don't pull the paper out from the front tray even though you can see the jammed paper at the front tray. Pulling the paper out forcibly from the front tray may damage the machine.

  2. Reload the paper, and press the Stop/Reset button on the machine.

  3. Turn the machine off, then unplug the power cord.

  4. Stand the machine with the right side facing down.

When you stand the machine, confirm that the document cover is closed, hold it securely, and be careful not to hit it on a hard object.

  5. Push the open lever to open the transport unit.

    (A) Open lever

When you open the transport unit, support it with your hand so the machine doesn't not fall down.

  6. Slowly pull out the jammed paper.

If the paper is rolled up and difficult to remove, grasp the edges of the paper, then remove the jammed paper. Also, if you can't remove the jammed paper from the transport unit, close the transport unit, stand the machine upright, then open the paper output cover to remove the paper.

  7. Close the transport unit.

After you close the transport unit, return the machine to its original position.

  8. Plug the machine back in and turn it back on.

  9. Reload the paper. All print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.

Good to know

To avoid paper jams make sure to check the following.

  • Are there any foreign objects around the paper output slot?

  • Are there any foreign objects around the front tray?

  • Is the paper curled?
