Description

Understand and resolve the orange alarm lamp on your PIXMA MG3120 / MG3122 printer.

Solution

When an error occurs you may see the orange alarm Lamp lit or flashing on your printer LED. Select one of the following options to learn how to resolve the problem:


Try this first

Note The following button pushes may quickly clear the machine when an error occurs:
  • ON button: To turn the printer off and on again.

  • Color Button: To clear and recover from an error.
    For some errors, the error will automatically be cleared when the cause of the error is removed, and it may not be necessary to press the Color button.

  • Stop button: To cancel the job at error occurrence, and to clear the error.


Alarm lamp is LIT orange

When a printer error occurs, the alarm lamp is lit orange and the error code displays on the printer LED. Check the error code on the LED and take the appropriate action to correct the error.

The printer is out of paper.
Paper does not feed.

Reload the paper in the front tray and press the Black or Color button.
When you load the paper, insert the paper stack until the leading edge touches the far end of the front tray.

Paper jam.

The paper may be jammed.
Remove the jammed paper, reload the paper properly in the machine, then press the Black or Color button.

The FINE cartridge is not installed properly.

  1. Open the paper output cover.

  2. When the cover opens, push up the ink cartridge lock lever to confirm that the cartridges are properly installed.

  3. Close the paper output cover.

If the error isn't resolved, remove and replace the cartridges.

The FINE cartridge is not installed properly. Appropriate FINE cartridge is not installed.

 Install the approprate cartridge.

Close the paper output cover.

Make sure that each cartridge is installed in the correct position.
Replace a cartridge.

Ink absorber is almost full.

Press the printer's Black or Color button to continue printing.

When the ink absorber fills completely, your printer will require servicing.

Loaded paper is not compatible with automatic duplex printing.

  • The sizes of media suitable for auto duplex printing are A4 or Letter.

  • Make sure that the size of the paper loaded in the machine is correct.

  • Press the Color or Black button to eject the paper and restart printing from the front side of the next paper. The reverse side of the ejected sheet won't be printed.

Cannot print the contents on CREATIVE PARK PREMIUM.

When you print the contents on CREATIVE PARK PREMIUM:

  1. Confirm the message on the computer screen.

  2. Make sure that genuine Canon cartridges are all properly installed .

  3. Start printing again.

The remaining ink level cannot be detected.

  • The ink may have run out.

  • The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled since the ink level cannot be correctly detected.

  • To continue printing without this function, press the printer's Stop / Reset button for at least 5 seconds.

  • Canon recommends that you use new genuine Canon cartridges in order to obtain optimum qualities.

Caution Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble caused by the continuation of printing under the ink out condition.

The FINE cartridge cannot be recognized.

  • Printing can't be executed because the ink cartridge installed isn't compatible with this printer.

  • Install the approprate cartridge.

  • If you want to cancel printing, press the printer's Stop / Reset button.

The ink has run out.

 

  • Replace the ink cartridge and close the paper output cover.

  • If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press the printer's Stop / Reset button for at least 5 seconds with the ink cartridge installed. Then printing can continue under the ink out condition.

  • The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled.

  • Replace the empty ink cartridge immediately after the printing. The resulting print quality may not be satisfactory if printing is continued under the ink out condition.

The paper output tray is closed.

Open the paper output tray to resume printing.

Press the Black button or the Color button to dismiss the error, then perform setup again.

The size of the original cannot be correctly detected or the document is too small when the Fit-to-Page copying is selected.

  • Make sure the original is correctly loaded on the glass.

  • Check the position and direction of the original loaded on the glass.

The printer is not connected with the computer.

Connect the printer and the computer with a USB cable.

The protective material for the FINE cartridge or the tape remains attached.

Check the inside of the printer. If the protective material or the tape remains attached, remove it.
 Remove protective material or tape.

Scanning the print head alignment sheet has failed.

Press the Stop / Reset button to dismiss the error, then check the following:

  • Is the print head alignment sheet set in the correct position and orientation on the glass?

  • Is the glass surface and print head alignment sheet clean?

  • Is the type and size of loaded paper is suitable for Automatic Print Head Alignment? 
    (One sheet of A4 or letter-sized plain paper).

  • Are the print head nozzles clogged?
    Print the nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print head.

If the error isn't resolved, connect the printer to your computer and align the print head on the printer driver.

Alarm lamp FLASHES orange

When the Alarm lamp flashes and one of the following error codes displays on the printer LED, an error requiring service might have occurred.

  1. Cancel printing and turn off the printer.

  2. Clear the jammed paper or protective material that prevents the cartridge holder from moving.

  3. Turn the printer on again.

Note If the error displays and the head cover (cartridge cover) doesn't open.

Caution Be careful not to touch the components inside the printer. The printer may not print properly if you touch it.

Replace the cartridge.

Cases other than above:

P03, P06, P07,  P09, P22, P26, P27, P28, P29

  1. Turn the printer off.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power supply.

  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it back on.
