Follow the steps below to resolve paper jams in the paper output slot, rear tray, or remove foreign objects and other obstructions in the printer.

 Keep the power on while the machine sends or receives a fax. This ensures the received fax or the unsent fax is stored in the machine's memory. Next, check that all faxes are sent or received before you disconnect the power cord. Once you unplug the power cord, all the faxes stored in the machine's memory are deleted.

• To turn off the machine and remove jammed paper, before a print has completed, press the Stop button. This cancels the print jobs before you turn off the machine.  

Paper Is Jammed in the Paper Output Slot or the Rear Tray

1. Slowly pull the paper out, either from the Rear Tray or from the Paper Output Slot, whichever is easier.
   
   

If the paper tears and a piece remains inside the machine, turn the machine off. Then, open the Scan Unit (Cover), and remove the paper.

• Be careful not to touch the components inside the machine.

• After you remove all paper, close the Scan Unit (Cover), and turn the machine back on.

• If you can't pull the paper out, turn the machine off and back on. The paper should eject automatically.

2. Reload the paper, and press the OK button on the machine.
   If you turned off the machine in step 1, all print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.

 When you reload the paper, confirm that you use the paper suited for the print and that it's loaded correctly.

• We recommend you use paper other than the A5 size to print documents with photos or graphics. Otherwise, the printout may curl and cause paper jams.

In Other Cases

• Check 1: Are there any foreign objects around the Paper Output Slot?

• Check 2: Are there any foreign objects in the Rear Tray?
  
  
  
  If there are any foreign objects in the Rear Tray, turn off the machine, unplug it from the power supply, and remove the foreign object.
  
  

• Check 3: Is the paper curled?

Document Jams in the ADF

 When you turn off the machine to remove the jammed document, make sure you:

• Keep the power on while the machine sends or receives a fax, or when the received fax or unsent fax is stored in the machine's memory.

• Check that the machine completes all the faxes before you disconnect the power cord.

• If you unplug the power cord, all faxes stored in the machine's memory are deleted.

• If you press the Stop button mid-scan, press the OK button. The document should automatically feed out.

Remove the jammed document from the Document Tray

1. If print is in progress, press the Stop button.

2. Turn off the machine.

3. If a multi-page document is loaded, remove all pages except the jammed page from the ADF, and open the Document Feeder Cover.
   
   

4. Pull out the jammed document from the ADF.
   
   

5. Close the Document Feeder Cover, then turn on the machine.

After you clear the error, recan the document from the first page.  
 

 Certain media types may not feed the paper properly. Your environment may also affect the feed, including hot and cold temperatures and humidity levels. In this case, reduce the number of document pages to half of the load capacity.

• If the document still jams, use the Platen Glass instead.

Remove the jammed document from the Document Output Slot

1. To remove jammed documents in the Document Output Slot, close the Document Tray and pull out the document, (as shown in the figure below).

1. After you clear the error, rescan the document from the first page.
